Ghaziabad: Auto gear factory shuts its manufacturing unit, workers protest

After Atlas Cycle, Auto Gear factory shut its last manufacturing unit. Workers of the factory have staged a protest outside the unit and claimed that the unit was shut without notice.

Ghaziabad:Auto Gear Factory, a renowned name in the manufacturing sector of gears and shafts established in 1972, has temporarily shut its last manufacturing unit in Sahibabad. As many as 300 workers have staged a protest outside the unit claiming that they were not given any prior notice about the factory being shut.

This comes after Atlas Cycles had shut its factory on June 3 citing lack of funds to run the operations, laying off its 431 employees.

"We were not informed about this. We were waiting for the lockdown to be uplifted so that we may receive our wages," said the agitated workers of Auto Gear Factory claiming that they had come to factory on Saturday to work.

Labour Union president Ishwar Chand Tyagi said, "We will talk to the Labour Commissioner and District Commissioner about it. Workers will not tolerate retrenchment. Atlas Cycle was also shut in a similar manner and its employees were told that they will be paid lay-off wages. We will fight for our justice."

Employees of the unit claimed that the unit was shut without notice and they were not given wages before lockdown. However, the factory owners are tight-lipped about the entire matter.
