New Delhi:While hearing the petition over discrepancies in election data, senior advocate Prashant Bhushan on Monday informed the Supreme Court that VVPATs during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections were destroyed.

Bhushan claimed in front of the apex court that he received the information on basis of an RTI that he filed.

Bhushan also said that according to rules, VVPATs must be kept for a year unless the Election Commission orders otherwise.

The apex court directed the Election Commission to respond on the matter after four weeks.

Bhushan also objected to the two-month time sought by the EC to which he said that the last notice also had a two-month deadline, but there was no reply.

The bench led by CJI SA Bobde scheduled the next date for hearing after four weeks.
