Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government on Tuesday announced that it will procure cow-dung at Rs 2 per kg under 'Gaudhan Nyay Yojana'. The decision of the Bhupesh Baghel-led government came after the Cabinet Committee decided to purchase cow-dung at Rs 2 per kilogram after considering the transport expenses, which was initially recommended at Rs 1.5 per kgs. The scheme will be implemented from July 21st on the occasion of Hareli festival.
CM Baghel's attempt to revive the agricultural economy in the state by launching schemes like Narwa (rivulets and streams), Garuwa (livestock), Ghurwa(compost), and Baadi (cultivation of fruits and vegetables) will be strengthened after Gaudhan Nyay Yojana will be put to action.
To make the scheme successful, 5300 gothans (cow sheds) have been sanctioned in the state. As per the government data, 2408 sheds have been constructed in rural areas and 377 in urban pockets.
According to the directives, the vermicompost will be sold to the farmers at the rate of Rs 8 per kg.
A committee headed by Agriculture Minister Ravindra Chaubey was formed to fix the rate of purchasing the rate of cow-dung.
