Four PFI suspects questioned by Enforcement Directorate

Enforcement Directorate quizzed the four alleged Popular Front of India activists, who were arrested when they were going to Hathras, for around five hours after the team was given a green signal by the chief judicial magistrate to interrogate the suspects on Tuesday.

Mathura (Uttar Pradesh):Four alleged Popular Front of India activists, who were arrested when they were going to Hathras, were quizzed by the Enforcement Directorate in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district for around five hours, an official said.

The team was given a green signal by the chief judicial magistrate to interrogate the suspects on Tuesday. The ED questioned them at the temporary jail of the Highway police station, the official said.

The police had identified the arrested persons as Siddique from Malappuram, Kerala; Atiq-ur Rehman from Muzaffarnagar, Masood Ahmed from Bahraich and Alam from Rampur, Uttar Pradesh.

The Kerala Union of Working Journalists said Siddique Kappan was a senior Delhi-based journalist working for several Malayalam media houses.

Earlier, on October 4 four people said to have links with alleged radical group Popular Front of India (PFI) and an associate outfit, were arrested at Mathura while they were on their way to Hathras from Delhi.

The police said the four were taken into custody at Mathura's Math toll plaza where the police were checking vehicles after receiving a tip-off that some suspicious people were on their way to Hathras from Delhi.

The four were in a car, the police said, adding their mobile phones, laptop and some literature, which could have an impact on peace and order, were seized.

During interrogation, it came to light that they had links with the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its associate organisation Campus Front of India (CFI), the police said, adding further their interrogation is underway.
