Forces launch search operation in North Kashmir's Sopore

Security forces on Thursday morning launched a cordon and search operation in Gund brath area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district following inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

Sopore (Jammu and Kashmir): Security forces launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in Gund brath area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday morning.

Reports said a joint team of army’s 22 RR, SOG of J&K police and CRPF cordoned off Gund Brath area of Sopore and conducted house to house searches there.

Reports said that all entry and exit points towards the area were sealed off by the security forces.

A police officer said that search operation was launched following inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

Searches were going on in the area when reports last came in.

Earlier, on October 10, a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Dadoora following inputs about the presence of militants. As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The joint team retaliated triggering an encounter.

Official sources said that two militants were killed in a brief exchange of fire. However, their identity couldn’t be ascertained immediately. Police also recovered incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including two automatic rifles.

This is the second encounter in south Kashmir in less than 12 hours. Earlier, two militants were killed in an overnight gunfight with the security forces in Kulgam.
