Focus on next 5 years, not 2047: Congress on BJP's claim

Reacting on BJP leader's Ram Madhav's claim that his party would remain in power till 2047, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said that instead of 2047, the saffron party should instead focus on the nest five years.

New Delhi: Days after BJP leader Ram Madhav expressed confidence that his party would remain in power at the Centre till 2047, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera on Saturday downplayed the former's comments and said that the saffron party should concentrate on fulfilling its promises over the next five years.

Speaking exclusively to ETV Bharat, Khera said, "Elections are held every five years. Whichever party comes to power, does so on the basis of its promises. If it delivers, it gets the mandate. There will be elections even before 20147."

Brushing off speculations whether Madhav's comments were a sly dig at the Congress, Khera said that the saffron party should put its 'money power' to good use. "I want to tell the BJP, if you have money power and authority, put it to good use. Concentrate on the next five years and try to fulfil the promises you made," he said.

Earlier on June 3, BJP leader Ram Madhav claimed that his party would remain in power at the Centre till 2047, and would celebrate the centenary of Indian independence.

Saying that even the Congress had been in power for more than 50 years since independence, Madhav claimed that the BJP would like to break the record and become the longest-serving party at the Centre.
