Fight against Plastic: Get a cup of tea free in exchange for plastic bottle

Indira canteens in Vijaypura district of Karnataka are offering a cup of tea in exchange for a plastic bottle to curb plastic use and seek cooperation from its citizens to ensure a clean society.

Vijayapura (Karnataka):In an attempt to create awareness among citizens and reduce plastic pollution, Indira Canteens in Vijaypura are offering a cup of tea in exchange for a plastic bottle.

The district administration came up with this idea to curb plastic-use and seek cooperation from its citizens to ensure a clean society.

“This is a programme to complement the nationwide-drive launched to curb single-use plastic,” said City Corporation officials.

The plastic bottles from the canteens are then sent to JK Cement factory in Bagalkot to be mixed with cement and increase its quality.

The initiative was introduced after there was a sudden increase in the use of plastic.

Recently, the corporation officials also seized around 14 tonnes of plastic from retail and wholesale stores.

Every day around 400 kg of plastic is collected at the solid waste management site in the city.
