Chandigarh: With more people preferring to use online mode of transactions, cybercriminals are also devising new techniques to trick unsuspecting internet users.

"Cybercriminals use fake Facebook accounts to cheat innocent people. They would create a fake Facebook account in the name of relatives or friends and try to cheat you," a cybercrime expert Rajesh Rana told ETV Bharat.

He said they would target several people through such Facebook accounts. They hack Facebook identities first and then request money from the victim's friends.

When people see "you" asking for money, they send it without asking any questions, he said.

Rana suggested that one should never accept a friend request from an unknown person. The profile of the sender must be checked as the fake profile would generally have less number of posts and other activity. Friends' list of such accounts tends to be small as compared to the real ones.

Take all possible precautions before accepting their request to be friends on the social site. He says one can save himself/herself from unnecessary trouble by being a bit cautious.
