ETV Bharat impact: 10 elderly from Gujarat old age home taken back home

Acting on ETV Bharat’s report, Bharuch-based Narmada Education and Welfare Trust approached several families which had abandoned their elderly parents at an old age home run by Ahmedabad-based Karuna Trust and asked them to take them back home given that the old age home was struggling to keep the vulnerable inmates safe amid coronavirus outbreak.

Bharuch (Gujarat):As many as 10 senior citizens who were staying at an old-age home in Bharuch district of Gujarat were taken back home by their families amid coronavirus outbreak after ETV Bharat narrated their ordeal in a special report published on April 5.

Acting on ETV Bharat’s report, Bharuch-based Narmada Education and Welfare Trust approached several families which had abandoned their elderly parents at ‘Vadilo Nu Ghar’ old age home run by Ahmedabad-based Karuna Trust and asked them to take them back home given that the old age home was struggling to keep the vulnerable inmates safe from the deadly infection.

Following their persuasion, families of at least 10 elderly women and men decided to take them back.

Vadilo Nu Ghar houses 75 abandoned senior citizens and is struggling to provide the elderly inmates as well its staff with masks and sanitisers while imposing social distancing norms, among other precautionary measures.

The World Health Organisation has warned that people above 60 years and those with underlying medical conditions such as cardiovascular diseases and diabetes are especially susceptible to the virus.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in India jumped to 24,447 on Saturday with 780 deaths.
