Hyderabad: Ramoji Group of Companies Chairman Ramoji Rao launched a special video made by ETV Bharat as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary. The video is a rendition of Vaishnav Jan to tene re kahiye, je peed parayee jane re, Par dukhe upkaar kare toye man abhimaan na aane re” (He is called a true “Vaishnav” who feels the suffering of another human being, and forgets that he has favoured people without taking pride over it) one of the favourite bhajans of Mahatma Gandhi.
ETV Bharat's tribute to Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary When the country is celebrating Mahatma Gandhi's 150th anniversary, ETV Bharat takes this opportunity to connect the country through Gandhi's favourite Bhajan.
In a country, as vast, diverse and beautiful as India, ETV Bharat envisioned connecting India through the bhajan written in 15th century by a Gujarati poet, Narsinh Mehta.
The poem beautifully illustrates the lives and ideals of a Vaishnava, who is full of compassion for each and every one.
Narsinh Mehta renounced worldly-life and became a force behind the bhaktimovement.
Mahatma Gandhi adopted the simplicity, devotion, fearlessness and humility from the writings of Narsi Bhagat, who was regarded as aadi kavi (first among the Gujarati poets).
His bhajan brought different castes and classes together in an atmosphere of joy, which was a need of the hour.
This bhajan used to be part of the regular repertoire at Sabarmati Ashram and also, it was loved and sung by freedom fighters in order to connect with the spirit of non-violence and brotherhood that Gandhi preached and practised throughout his life.
ETV Bharat, which is a multilingual digital platform, truly reflects various colours, cultures, traditions, ethos and aspirations of Indian people, living in the vast expanse of the country.
As a digital platform, ETV Bharat goes much beyond the boundaries of urban centres and brings out successes and triumphs of every Indian at the same time. We are much ahead in highlighting the trials and tribulations of a common man truly exemplified in the writings of Narsinh Mehta.
In a time, when humanity needs compassion for fellow citizens, ETV Bharat tries to bring out the best of Indian singers on one platform, who represent the Indian diversity.
Prominent singers of Tamil (P Unnikrishnan), Telugu (SP Balasubrahmanyam), Kannada (P Vijay Prakash), Gujarati (Yogesh Gadhavi), Assamese (Pulak Banerjee), Marathi (Vaishali Made), Malayalam (K.S Chitra), Punjabi (Shankar Sahney), Bengali (Haimanti Sukla), Odiya (Subash Chandra Das), and Hindi (Channu Lal Mishra and Salamat Khan) lent their voices to pay a rich tribute to the father of the nation.
The music has been composed by famous music director, Vasu Rao Saluri and directed by Ajit Nag.
The song has been shot in every part of the country truly highlighting its rich culture and tradition.
