Elderly TN couple chase away armed robbers with slippers and plastic chairs!

An elderly couple from Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli turned into an internet sensation after a one minute video of them fighting off robbers armed with sickles went viral.

Tirunelveli:In an act of courage and bravery, an elderly Tamil Nadu couple fought off two masked intruders using plastic chairs and a pair of slippers!

A video of the incident has since emerged in which a masked intruder is seen sneaking behind the 70-year-old Shanmugavelu. The intruder then tries to choke the man with a piece of cloth, while the later is reaching out to grab a piece of paper.

The couple are residents of Kalyanipuram in Tirunelveli's Kadaiyam.

Shanmugavelu struggles to get loose when his wife Sentharamai shocked by the ongoing scene decides to fend off the intruders with the first thing she can get her hands on - slippers.

The 65-year-old Sentharamai aims and targets the intruder, as her husband tried to fight his way out of the deadly grip.

After getting free, the braveheart couple throw furniture, fling plastic chairs and wooden stool and fight off the robbers armed with sickles.

Shanmugavelu even wielded broken leg of the plastic chair as a weapon against the robbers, who had to retreat following the couple's counterattack.

According to reports, the attack took place at around 9:30 p.m on Sunday, when Shanmugavelu was sitting outside his house talking to his sons and gazing through a news daily.

The police have launched an investigation to nab the robbers.
