Earthquake of magnitude 4.1 jolts Andaman and Nicobar Islands

An earthquake of magnitude 4.1 was felt near Diglipur in Andaman and Nicobar islands at 8:56 am on Sunday. The situation is being monitored by the officials.

Diglipur: An earthquake, with magnitude of 4.1, struck near Diglipur, in Andaman and Nicobar islands at 8:56 am on Sunday, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said.

So far, there has been no report of any damage, loss of life or property, according to officials.

Earlier, on June 27, an earthquake of magnitude 2.4 on the Richter scale hit 3 km northwest of Rohtak of Haryana. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the tremors were felt in the area at 9:11:23 p.m. on Saturday.

Another earthquake of magnitude 4.4 jolted the Hanle region of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

Reportedly, around 16 earthquake tremors have been felt in the National Capital Region (NCR) in the past two months.

However, seismologists believe that the increased frequency does not necessarily imply that a major one is coming but stress that monitoring them is key to being prepared.

Unlike many other natural disasters, earthquakes cannot be predicted with any degree of certainty.
