Domestic dispute results in three deaths near Hyderabad

Two women took the extreme step of committing suicide after their husbands scolded them for returning late home when the women went to collect the provisions distributed for lockdown. One of them killed her 5-year-old daughter before committing suicide.

Hyderabad:Two women hanged themselves after killing the daughter of one of them on the outskirts of Hyderabad, police said on Monday.

The women ended their lives by hanging themselves from two different trees in an agricultural field near Jawaharnagar in Medchal district as they left their respective homes after having an argument with their husbands over the issue of returning home late.

The body of the girl was found lying on the ground, the police said.

Police rushed to the scene after receiving information about the incident around 9 am. It is suspected that the incident took place on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.

The deceased women were identified as Anusha and Sumati and Anusha's five-year-old daughter Uma Maheswari. The police suspect that the women poisoned the girl before hanging themselves.

Preliminary investigation by the police revealed that the women hailed from Karimnagar district and had come to Medchal district on April 10 after a quarrel with their husbands over returning home late after getting rice supplied by the government through ration shops in view of lockdown. This led to an argument with their husbands and they left their homes, the police said.

They had taken shelter at a church near Jawaharnagar through an acquaintance. The bodies were sent for autopsy. Further investigations are on, they added. (IANS Report)
