Delhi violence: Fate of 1222 students at stake as school burnt down

Arun Modern Public school was burnt down to ashes after a violent mob entered the building on February 25 and set it on fire. School owner narrated the horrific incident and said that all the documents were lost.

New Delhi: After the widespread violence that broke in north-east Delhi killing more than 40 people, Arun Modern Public, a private school has been burnt to ashes and is now home to broken benches and burnt books. School management said that property worth Rs 90 lakhs were destroyed by the violent mob.

Situated in Jafrabad area, the fate of more than 1222 students studying in this school is at stake after the rioters vandalised the educational institution before setting it on fire.

While talking to ETV Bharat, school owner Abhishek Sharma said, "I am clueless after what has happened. All the documents of the school since its inception have turned into ashes. On February 25, a violent mob stormed into the premises and vandalised everything. They entered into the building by climbing the wall from the other side and continued with their violent activities for more than three hours''.

''Charred remnants of books and notebooks were found on the ground. School vans, principle rooms, library, classrooms, smart classrooms..everything was ransacked. All the question papers were also burnt which were kept for the final examination. Students from different communities used to study here but now even the record of all the students are also lost,'' Sharma narrated the horrific incident.

Similar heart-wrenching scenes were also witnessed in Rajdhani Public School, DPR School which were set on fire by the mob. The communal violence over the amended citizenship law in northeast Delhi has claimed 43 lives till now and left over 300 people injured.

Frenzied mobs torched houses, shops, vehicles, a petrol pump and pelted stones at locals and police personnel. Jaffrabad, Maujpur, Babarpur, Yamuna Vihar, Bhajanpura, Chand Bagh and Shiv Vihar were the main violence-prone areas.

However, no incident of violence has been reported from Delhi in the last 72 hours and the situation is assumed to be normal. Heavy police forces have been deployed and an appeal has made to the masses to maintain peace and harmony.
