Cyclone 'Nisarga' to cross Maharashtra, Gujarat coasts on June 3: All you need to know

In an exclusive conversation with ETV Bharat, India Metrological Department Scientist 'F' RK Jenamani stated that the depression over East Central and adjoining Southeast Arabian Sea will intensify into a Cyclonic Storm known as Nisarga till June 2. The severe cyclonic storm will cross Maharashtra and Gujarat with a wind speed gusting up to 110 kmph. Meanwhile, nearly 23 NDRF teams have been deployed on Maharashtra and Gujarat coasts in the anticipation of Cyclone Nisarga.

New Delhi:The Depression over East Central and adjoining Southeast Arabian Sea will intensify into a Cyclonic Storm by next 24 hours till June 2, which will cross the coasts of north Maharashtra and south Gujarat during the afternoon of June 3, India Metrological Department (IMD) stated on Monday.

The Cyclonic Storm in the Arabian Sea, namely Nisarga, comes days after the super cyclonic storm, Amphan hit the parts of West Bengal and Odisha that left 86 people dead and rendered 10 million people homeless.

ETV Bharat, in conversation with RK Jenamani, Scientist 'F' at IMD, gets more details about Cyclone Nisarga:

• The Depression is currently at Southeast Arabian Sea, 630 km South-Southeast of Mumbai. It will intensify further into a cyclonic storm into the next 24 hours.

• By the afternoon of June 2, it will become a cyclonic storm in the east-central Arabian Sea and will cross between Harihareshwar and Daman on June 3.

• It will cross our coasts as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with a Wind speed of 90-100 kmph, gusting to 110 kmph.

• Heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Maharashtra and Gujarat on June 3 and 4, as the states are on pre-cyclone alerts.

• Nisarga will weaken into Cyclonic Storm in the second half of June 4, with a wind speed of 45-55 kmph, gusting to 65 kmph.

• This has become favourable for the advance monsoon as today IMD has also declared the onset of southwest monsoon in Kerala.

• Fishermen are advised not to venture into the Arabian Sea till June 3 to 4. Those who are in the sea were being asked to come back to the coasts.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 23 teams on Maharashtra and Gujarat coasts in the anticipation of Cyclone Nisarga.
