CRPF unveils valour wall in tributes to officers

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) today unveiled a 'valour wall' with names of gallantry award winning-officers, and marked National Sports Day with volleyball games across 1,600 locations, writes ETV Bharat's senior reporter Chandrakala Choudhury.

New Delhi: Joining hands with the rest of the country, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Saturday celebrated the National Sports Day, and also inaugurated a 'valour wall' depicting the names of gallantry award winning officers.

"Celebrating valour where the foundation was laid. Photographs of alumni officers who won the gallantry medals will embellish this 'Valour Wall' unveiled today by DG CRPF at the training academy in Gurgaon," CRPF tweeted.

"138 medals now adorn the courage and leadership instilled by the academy since 2005," it added.

CRPF is among the top two police organisations in the country that has bagged the maximum gallantry medals over the last decade.

Meanwhile, a series of volleyball matches were also conducted at more than 1,600 locations to mark the National Sports Day celebration. National Sports Day marks the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyanchand who was born on August 29, 1905

During the occasion, CRPF DGP AP Maheshwari visited the CRPF Academy at Kadarpur, Gurugram and inaugurated the 3-a-side volleyball matches being played there.

Two-time Olympic medallist and Indian wrestling icon Sushil Kumar graced the occasion as the guest of honour. The celebration saw a gruelling match between the CRPF personnel. It is worth noting that having a close affinity with the communities in proximity of its campuses, CRPF is also ensuring their participation in events such as these and the Fit India and Khelo India movement.

Commenting on the matches, DG remarked that the same spirit of teamwork which leads to victory in sports also leads to operational success in forces.

Central Reserve Police force - the lead internal security force of the country gives immense importance to the physical fitness of its personnel, with mandatory PT and culture of games and sports that are part of the daily routine of the personnel.

CRPF's league of sportspersons include two Padma Shri Awardees, a Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awardee, 16 Arjuna Awardees and a recent recipient of Major Dhyan Chand Lifetime award.

Apart from setting a target of running one crore kilometre as part of the Fit India movement, CRPF has also signed an MoU with Aditya Mehta Foundation to train and skill its Divyang warriors in para-sports.

With 246 battalions and various other establishments, the CRPF is considered India's largest paramilitary force and has a sanctioned strength of more than 3,00,000 personnel.
