New Delhi: Joining hands with the rest of the country, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Saturday celebrated the National Sports Day, and also inaugurated a 'valour wall' depicting the names of gallantry award winning officers.
"Celebrating valour where the foundation was laid. Photographs of alumni officers who won the gallantry medals will embellish this 'Valour Wall' unveiled today by DG CRPF at the training academy in Gurgaon," CRPF tweeted.
"138 medals now adorn the courage and leadership instilled by the academy since 2005," it added.
CRPF is among the top two police organisations in the country that has bagged the maximum gallantry medals over the last decade.
Meanwhile, a series of volleyball matches were also conducted at more than 1,600 locations to mark the National Sports Day celebration. National Sports Day marks the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyanchand who was born on August 29, 1905
During the occasion, CRPF DGP AP Maheshwari visited the CRPF Academy at Kadarpur, Gurugram and inaugurated the 3-a-side volleyball matches being played there.
Two-time Olympic medallist and Indian wrestling icon Sushil Kumar graced the occasion as the guest of honour. The celebration saw a gruelling match between the CRPF personnel.
