Crime is rising while Modi, Yogi celebrating: Congress

Congress has come down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for indulging in celebrations when their attention is required to ensure safety and security of girls and women in view of crime against them. It also accused for "protecting criminals".

New Delhi: Accusing Narendra Modi government of shielding and supporting accused of heinous crimes like rape and murder, the Congress on Thursday said that there is an atmosphere of fear in the entire country especially among girls and women.

Addressing a press conference here, Congress spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee said the victims of rape and other crimes are asking for protection and justice but the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers of the BJP ruled states are busy in celebrating their achievements.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given this slogan of 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' but the daughters are fearful. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is busy celebrating his 300 days in office. The Prime Minister is also releasing butterflies," she said, adding that the central, as well as state governments, must concentrate on their work.

"There are people such as Swami Chinmayananda who are being protected by the government. A rape victim has been seeking justice but nothing is being done," she added.

The Congress leader said this was being done intentionally.
