CPI(M) welcomes SC verdict with rider

CPI (M) welcomes SC verdict on Ayodhya case but said "certain premises of the judgment were questionable". The party also said that the judgement must not be used to disturb peace in the country.

New Delhi: Welcoming the Supreme Court verdict on Ram Janmbhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute, the Communist Party of India (CPI)(M) on Saturday said that "certain premises of the judgment were questionable".

“The CPI(M) has always maintained that the issue should be resolved by a judicial verdict if a negotiated settlement was not possible. While this judgment has provided a judicial resolution to this fractious issue, there are certain premises of the judgment which are questionable,” the party said in a statement here.

Reiterating party's stand, CPI (M) Polit Bureau member and former MP Hannan Mollah told ETV Bharat here that the Supreme Court has tried to end the matter.

He, however, said it must not be used to create any disharmony in the country.

"No attempt should be made to provocate people," the CPI (M) added.

Earlier in the day, the top court paved the way for the construction of a Ram temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya and directed the union government to allot an alternative 5-acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for building a new mosque in the holy town of Uttar Pradesh.
