New Delhi: The Communist Party of India CPI (M) has called a nationwide campaign against the government on issues pertaining to farmers, workforce, industries, employment and inflation from November 26 till January 26, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said on Saturday.
"In these two months the central committee will work to set up a broad coalition of secular democratic forces, people's movements, intellectuals and other eminent personalities on issues of protection of human rights, on civil liberties and democratic rights of the workers and peasantry," Yechury said.
The announcement came after Sitaram Yechury concluded his two day long Central Committee meet of the party.
"State-level coalitions on each of these issues will be forged mobilizing widest possible forces culminating with the call for the protection of our constitution on Republic Day," he said.
Slamming the Modi government on various economic and job crisis, pandemic handling and other issues, party's general secretary said, "There has been double worry attack on people in the form of COVID-19 pandemic and the economic recession."
"RBI has said that our growth rate for this financial year 2021 will be a minus 9.5 %. IMF mentioned that there will be a further fall that and growth rate will be 10.3%. RBI has said that this projection comes on the top of a steady decline in the GDP. From 8.3% in 2016-17, 7% in 2017-18, 6.1% in 2018-19, 4.2% in 2019-20 and now a minus 9.5% has been anticipated," said Yechuri.
Highlighting India's position in the Global Hunger Index which positions India at 94th place among 107 countries, the leader cited the situation as 'worst'.

"Such bangs of hunger for the Indian people is completely unnecessary. There are several crores of tonnes of food grains rotting in the Central godowns which must be used to provide free food. The government's policies have helped the wealth of India's 50 richest people grow by 14% in 2020. This rich becoming richer and poor becoming poorer. This is not acceptable," the leader added.
"Twenty-nine existing labour laws have been abolished replaced by 4 labour codes. All the rights and provisions for the working class have either been removed completely or substantially diluted. In fact, these codes aim to convert workers into slaves. Three agri bills were passed which only benefits the foreign and domestic agribusiness corporations and puts our framers at the mercy of the corporates. While they earn super profits, there are miseries for our farmers and serious danger for India's food security," the leader added.
