New Delhi: CPI(M) has moved to the Supreme Court filing a petition seeking directions to the government to apply the Tamil Nadu Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Reservation of Seats in Educational Institutions and of appointments or posts in the Services under the State) Act 1993 granting 50% reservation to OBCs, 18% to SCs and 1% to STs in medical courses in Tamil Nadu.
The PIL has been filed through its Tamil Nadu's state secretary and seeks reservation in 'State surrendered seats in All India Quota seats' (other than in the Central institutions) in the state.
Further it asks the government to produce records pertaining to NEET-PG 2020 results conducted by National Board of examination for filling the All India Quota and set it aside or modify to accommodate the reservation enabled candidates. The results were published on 9th May 2020.
