New Delhi: Symptoms recur after recovering from COVID-19 and it should not be neglected, rather treated immediately, or else it would be fatal.
Breathing problems are caused by the deficiency of oxygen. Usually, clotting happens in the lungs. Normally, it work like a sponge. But, due to the ill-effects of the virus, it hardens. In medical terminology, it is called ‘Fibrosis'. The area where fibrosis occurs gets thickened and expansion, contraction movements get reduced.
Consequently, the process of sending oxygen into blood slows down. As a result, oxygen decreases in blood and breathlessness occurs. If medicines are given at this stage, it does not turn dangerous in most cases. Experts analyze that those who took treatment late after infecting COVID-19 are forced to go to the hospital once again. Because of the delay in receiving treatment, the intensity of the virus will be more in the first week itself. With that influence, in the second week, there will be Cytokine Storm. As a result, there will be an ill effect on the lungs and heart.

Danger of Infections
In some cases, after giving steroids the blood sugar levels increase. As a result, they fall prey to bacterial and fungal infections. In some persons, pneumonia is occurring second time too. In elderly patients, heart failure problem also occurs. Medicines have to be used according to the suggestion of the doctors.
Problems that may crop up after recovery --
- Headache
- Body pains
- Weakness
- Cough
- Loss of Appetite
- 99-99.50 *F fever intermittently.
All these problems disappear in due course with medicines.

- Squeeze in the chest
- Problems of heart and lungs
When should we identify health state as dangerous?
- Even after recovering from COVID, if feeling breathless.

- Recurrent fever.
- Continuous cough and increasing steadily.
- Oxygen content in the blood going down less than 90-94%

Do not give Steroids first says Dr Vishwanath Gella, Pulmonologist.
For COVID-19 patients steroids should not be given in the first week itself. If given, the virus does not get destroyed but remains dormant in the body. In such cases, some patients are coming back within 3,4 weeks with virus symptoms. If steroids are given unnecessarily there is a likelihood of infections occurring in urethra and blood.
Cytokines Storm appears in some cases in the second week and in some cases, it is appearing in the third and fourth weeks. They may even have to get admitted to hospitals. The chances of blood clotting are high in them and hence, physiotherapy, drinking adequate water, using the medicines suggested by the doctors, being bold are very necessary.
Should check even after going home suggests Dr Pavan Reddi Tudi, General Physician
As part of COVID-19 treatment, in some cases, the doctors are forced to administer steroid medicines. In them, it takes time to get back to earlier immunity level. As a result, loss of appetite and weakness will also be there. Even after going home, patients should check health indices periodically. Sugar tests are to be done at home only. Oxygen level has to be checked with pulse Oximeter. To increase appetite, liquids like soups have to be taken. Boiled food, hot food and liquid diet have to be taken. Salt has to be reduced.
- About 80 % of the people who are affected by COVID-19 are able to overcome the dreaded infection without going to the hospital.
- Remaining 20% of the people have the need to take treatment in the hospitals. Of these only in 5% of the people, the problem gets acute and have to take complicated treatment.
- Experts say that among those who are recovered, in about 5 – 10% problems are cropping up. Of these, 2% have to get readmitted into hospitals.
- As per the statistics of Medical and Health Department’s statistics, among such people, only 1% deaths are occurring. The rest are recovering.
