New Delhi: Amid much speculations over COVID-19 peak in India, a study conducted by researchers from an Operations Research Group setup by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Sunday said that India may witness peak of this pandemic in mid-November.

This findings of the study could put health ministry predictions aside that COVID-19 peak in India is unlikely.

The study further said that peak in India has earlier been delayed by the two month long lockdown.

"The precautions and health initiatives taken against COVID-19 also helped in delaying the peak in India," the study said.

It said that the lockdown shifted the peak of the pandemic by 34-76 days (approx) and helped the government in bringing down the number of infections by 69 percent to 97 percent.

Referring to the Government's anti COVID-19 initiatives, the findings said that if the coverage of public health measures can be increased to 80 percent, "the epidemic can be mitigate."

The study further found that approximately 60 percent deaths were prevented and one third of this mortality prevention is attributed to the reduction in need for critical care as a result of the Government interventions.
