COVID-19: Noida under lockdown; 4,000 workers engaged in sanitising city

As many as 4,000 sanitisation workers have been engaged in sanitisation operations across Noida, which has been placed under a lockdown, along with the entire state of Uttar Pradesh, till March 31.

Noida (Uttar Pradesh): With the Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday sealing Noida's border with Delhi and Ghaziabad in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, a sanitisation drive is being carried out across the city with over 4,000 sanitisation workers being engaged in the operations.

"4,000 sanitation workers and 50 tankers have been engaged for the operation. For narrow lanes, that cannot be penetrated by tankers, as many as 135 smaller machines have been provided which are being carried around by the workers carrying out the exercise," Noida Authority Officer on Special Duty Indu Prakash told ETV Bharat.

With the city under lockdown till March 31, the authorities are focusing on sanitising the residential areas as most of the commercial establishments stand closed.

"While conducting sanitisation operations residential areas in all our sectors have been given preference over commercial areas as most of the shops and commercial establishments are closed apart from a few outlets selling essential goods," said the official.

As many as 75 districts across the country have been placed under a lockdown as a measure to contain the deadly virus.
