Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that India's vaccine production will help in tackling the COVID-19 crisis faced around the world.

Addressing the 12th BRICS summit hosted by Russia, Modi said, “India’s vaccine production and delivery capacity will also work in the interest of humanity to tackle COVID crisis.”

Modi also asserted that India post-COVID could be a force multiplier for the global economy.

Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry in its COVID-19 briefing said that India’s positivity rate is declining continuously and its death rate is low as compared to the rest of the world.

Delhi

New Delhi: Amid the spike in COVID-19 cases in the national capital, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is mulling to shut down markets if there is a massive violation of COVID-19 safety norms.

Addressing a press conference today CM Kejriwal said that his government will send a proposal in this regard to the Centre.

Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government has sent a proposal to Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal to roll back its decision to allow the gathering of 200 people in marriage ceremonies and restricted the number to 50 now.

Kejriwal said that the Delhi govt, Centre and all agencies making 'double efforts' to control COVID-19 situation in the national capital.

However, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Monday started welcoming back its final-year PhD research scholars who were residing in the hostels before the lockdown as part of its phased reopening process.

Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow:The World Health Organisation (WHO) on Tuesday praised the Uttar Pradesh government for its COVID-19 management strategy terming it as a good example for other states to follow.

A statement issued by Roderico Ofrin, WHO Country Representative, read: “The UP government’s strategic response to COVID-19 by stepping up contact tracing efforts is exemplary and can serve as a good example for other states.”

Over 70,000 front-line health workers worked across the state to reach out to high-risk contacts of COVID-19 positive cases, he said.

Haryana

Gurugram: The Gurugram administration on Monday ordered reservation of 50% beds in general category and 75% beds in ICU/Ventilator category in public and private hospitals for COVID-19 patients in view of the sudden spike in infections.

The number of beds available under the general category and ICU/ventilator category is expected to increase by around 800 and 300, respectively.

As of now, 2,100 beds are reserved in various Gurugram hospitals, including 1,649 beds for isolation.

The total reserved ICU beds and ventilators are 312 and 139, respectively. Of these, 1,001 isolation beds, 119 ICU beds and 63 ventilators are unoccupied.

Karnataka

Bengaluru: After being closed for eight months, degree colleges in Karnataka reopened on Tuesday amidst several precautionary measures during the pandemic.

Students of many colleges were, however, unable to attend classes as many of them who had given swabs for COVID 19 testing did not get their results.

To attend classes, students and staff are required to produce a COVID negative certificate.
