Amid growing concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus, India accounts for 21% of all the recoveries reported worldwide, even as the country accounts for 18.6% of the global share of cases. Meanwhile, Maharashtra's Dharavi reported 12 new cases on Saturday, as the daily count is once again on the rise in the slum colony.

Hyderabad: With the second-highest caseload of the coronavirus disease globally, India continues to post the highest number of recoveries from the infection.

India accounts for 21% of all the recoveries reported worldwide, even as the country accounts for 18.6% of the global share of cases.

The United States accounts for the highest number of cases reported globally, accounting for 21.7% of all the cases, but accounts for 18.4% of the total global recoveries, according to data shared by the Union health ministry.

Delhi

New Delhi:Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain on Saturday said that the COVID-19 positivity rate in the national capital has decreased to 5.19 per cent.

"Out of 56,258 samples tested on Friday, 2,920 samples tested positive for COVID-19," Jain said.

Jain on Tuesday informed that the Delhi government has increased the number of COVID-19 beds by 1,000 in the national capital with 500 beds each in both private and government hospitals.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Prisons department has requested the city government to extend the emergency parole granted to convicts by one month in view of the existing COVID-19 situation.

Jharkhand

Ranchi: Jharkhand's minority welfare minister Haji Hussain Ansari died on Saturday at a hospital in Ranchi, official sources said. He was 73.

Ansari, a senior JMM leader, was admitted to the Medanta hospital around two weeks back after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

A spokesperson of the Medanta Hospital said that Ansari tested negative for COVID-19 on Friday, which meant that he had recovered.

Maharashtra

Mumbai:Dharavi reported 12 new cases on Saturday, as the daily count is once again on the rise in the slum colony.

The area reported a double-digit spike in cases for the eighth day in a row.

The total number of cases in the largest slum of Asia is now pitched at 3,217, while the number of active cases stands at 164.

The area has also been witnessing a steady rise in the number of recoveries, which has now climbed to 2,762.

Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has imposed Section 144 of the CrPC from Saturday onwards, in the wake of increasing Covid-19 cases in the state.

The order -- issued by Chief Secretary Vishwas Mehta -- shall come into effect from Saturday till October 31. The assembly of gatherings of more than five persons will not be permitted.

Meanwhile, The state reported the highest single-day recoveries of 4,476 COVID-19 patients on Saturday and 7,834 fresh cases. The death toll climbed to 813 with 22 more fatalities.
