The total recoveries surged to 40,25,079 while the active cases of COVID-19 crossed 10 lakh for the first time. Drug Controller General of India has approved Pharma giant Dr Reddy's proposal to conduct phase IV clinical trial of Favipiravir 200 mg tablets. It has asked the pharmaceutical company to include 50 per cent of the government site for the study.

Delhi:

With 4,432 fresh coronavirus cases, Delhi's caseload went over 2.34 lakh on Thursday while the death toll reached 4,877 with 38 fresh fatalities. Delhi's COVID-19 tally has reached 2,34,701 and the death toll has risen to 4,877, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi health department.

Union minister Prahlad Singh Patel on Thursday said he has tested positive for Covid-19. The Bharatiya Janata Party MP has requested those who came in contact with him to be cautious.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah was discharged from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Thursday evening at 5 p.m., four days after being admitted for a complete medical check-up. This was the third time he was admitted to hospital after contracting coronavirus infection.

Uttar Pradesh:

The death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 4,771 in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday with 81 more fatalities, while the infection tally climbed to 3,36,294 as 6,318 fresh cases were detected. The state now has 68,235 active COVID-19 cases and 2,63,288 people have recovered from the disease till date. The death toll due to the virus has climbed to 4,771 and the total number of cases has risen to 3,36,294.

Former chairman of the Shia Waqf Board, Wasim Rizvi has been tested positive for coronavirus, following which he has gone into self-isolation.

Arunachal Pradesh:

Arunachal Pradesh reported its highest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases on Thursday as 221 more people tested positive for the infection. The fresh infections have pushed the state's coronavirus tally to 6,692.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday said that he has tested negative for COVID-19. He had tested positive for the virus on September 15.

Karnataka:

Karnataka on Thursday reported 9,366 new cases of COVID-19 and 93 related fatalities, taking the infection count to 4,94,356 and the death toll to 7,629. The day also saw 7,268 patients getting discharged after recovery. As of September 17 evening, cumulatively 4,94,356 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 7,629 deaths and 3,83,077 discharges.

The Bharatiya Janata Party's newly-elected Rajya Sabha member from Karnataka Ashok Gasti is in a critical condition due to COVID-induced complications at a private hospital in the city, an official said on Thursday.

The ruling party and its leaders, including a Minister, however, declared Gasti 'dead' and began mourning him even as the Manipal hospital maintained that his condition was critical.

Maharashtra:

Maharashtra's COVID-19 case tally rose to 11,45,840 on Thursday with the addition of 24,619 cases. With 398 patients dying during the day, the death toll in the state reached 31,351. A total of 19,522 patients were discharged on Thursday after treatment, taking the number of recoveries in the state to 8,12,354, it said, adding that the state now has 3,01,752 active cases.

Tamil Nadu:

As many as 5,560 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Tamil Nadu, taking the total tally to 525,420, the state health department said on Thursday. The overall recoveries in the state have touched 470,192. At least 59 more deaths have been recorded in TN, pushing the total death toll to 8,618.
