Hyderabad (Telangana):Haircare is something that people of all ages, especially women are always concerned about. In our busy lives, we mostly ignore or don’t get enough time to take care of our hair, but this is the time! Amidst this lockdown that has been put on us due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is probably the best time to spend some time for our hair care. Dr. Sailaja Surapaneni, Dermatologist says, “People generally don’t follow the advice since they are very busy with their life. They use heating irons and not oil their hair properly. This results in damaged and rough hair”.
But is this the only reason for hair damage? Can our diet also affect our hair growth and texture? Dr Sailaja says, “ A good food prepared at home is very useful for our hair as well as skin. Now that due to lockdown, junk food outlets are not operational. The only option left is that of cooking at home, which is the key to good health”. Therefore, she recommends the following nutrients and in what food can they be found, that we should include in our diet to keep our hair healthy:
1. Vitamin A: Potato, carrot, pumpkin, spinach, milk, eggs
2. Vitamin B: Pulses such as urad bean, chana dal, green gram and in
almonds, meat, fish, green leafy vegetables
3. Vitamin C: Strawberries, bell peppers or capsicum, citrus fruits like oranges
and other seasonal fruits like mango, etc.
4. Vitamin D: Fish, Cod liver oil, egg yolks, mushroom and fortified foods
5. Vitamin E: Sunflower seeds, almond, spinach, lettuce, peanuts
6. Zinc: Spinach, Lettuce, pumpkin seeds, wheat
7. Proteins: Meat, fish, milk
