232 FIRs registered for curfew violation in Punjab

On the first day of imposition of curfew to battle with coronavirus pandemic, Punjab Police on Tuesday said 232 FIRs were registered and 111 arrested for violating the curfew.

While the maximum of 38 FIRs were registered in Mohali district, 34 in Amritsar (rural) and 30 each in Tarn Taran and Sangrur districts, said the Director General of Police (DGP).

He said the maximum number of 43 people were arrested from Tarn Taran district.

Two cases of violation of quarantine restrictions were also reported, said DGP Dinkar Gupta, adding these were from Sri Muktsar Sahib district, which also reported four cases of curfew violation.

The DGP advised the district police chiefs to allow the smooth movement of trucks across inter-state borders to carry food items into Punjab so that there was no scarcity of essential commodities.

He also spoke to the Chief Secretary and the DGP of Jammu and Kashmir to facilitate the entry into Jammu of hundreds of goods trucks stranded at the Madhopur barrier in Pathankot town.

He also took up the cause of Kashmiri students, who were also stuck in Madhopur because of the decision of their government to put all persons entering Jammu and Kashmir into quarantine.

 MS Randhawa, Delhi Police PRO:We have strictly enforced Section 144 in Delhi & all the inter-state borders have been sealed. Vehicles in NCR area that are transporting essential goods and commodities don't need any passes.

People related to the essential commodities and services don't need pass for movement within Delhi, they can show their IDs for movement. People working in e-commerce, media and medical services just need their IDs.

Make full payment to workers, employees during lockdown period: Andhra Govt

Andhra Pradesh Government on Tuesday said that all governement and private establishments will make "full payment" of wages and salaries to workers and employees including those working on contract and outsourcing basis during the lockdown period. 

The state government has stated that any violation will invite penal action under the Epidemics Diseases Act 1897.

U'khand HC closes subordinate courts from March 26

32 States/Union Territories announce complete lockdown in the entire state/UT covering 560 districts: Government of India

A complete lockdown has been imposed in 560 districts in 32 states and union territories across the country as precautionary measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, curbs have been imposed in only certain areas of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha. A total of 58 districts are under lockdown in the three states.

In Lakshadweep, a partial lockdown has been imposed. Passenger ships are prohibited from entering the island and section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) is in place.

Total number of cases in India has touched the 500 mark, including nine deaths.

Over 1,000 cases against violators in Delhi

New Delhi: Delhi Police has registered 1,012 cases in different areas of the national capital on the first day of the lockdown implemented to prevent the spread of coronavirus epidemic that has claimed at least nine lives in India so far.

A police officer said on Monday that most of these cases were registered under Section 188 of the IPC and Delhi Police Act.

The Delhi Police said in a statement: "These criminal cases were registered under Section 188 of the IPC and Sections 65 and 66 of the Delhi Police Act."

A Delhi Police spokesperson said: "Of the total cases registered, 100 cases were registered in various police stations under section 188 of the IPC. While 475 under section 65 of Delhi Police Act and 323 under section 66 of Delhi Police Act, 801 cases were registered under Delhi Police Act. Among the 15 districts, the maximum 29 cases were registered in South East District under Section 188. Whereas in this district the highest and total 211 cases were registered under Delhi Police Act."
