Kerala reports 193 fresh COVID-19 cases, two deaths

Kerala's COIVD-19 tally on Monday touched 5,622 with 193 fresh cases being reported, as the death toll rose to 27 with two more people succumbing to the virus.
Of the positive cases, 92 had come from abroad and 62 from other states, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said addressing the media online from his residence as triple lockdown has been imposed in the state capital since this morning.

Chhattisgarh: 60 cops quarantined after rape accused tests positive

Sixty policemen were quarantined in Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh after a rape accused they brought from Karnataka was detected with COVID-19 on Monday, an official said. The Civil Lines police station has been sealed and declared a containment zone, while swab samples of all the personnel have been sent for testing, Bilaspur Superintendent of Police Prashant Agrawal said.

Odisha MLA tests positive for COVID-19; speaker suspends meetings of all assembly committees

BJP MLA Sukanta Kumar Nayak tested positive for coronavirus on Monday, becoming the first legislator in Odisha to get infected by COVID-19, officials said on Monday.

The MLA from Nilgiri assembly constituency will be admitted to a COVID-19 Hospital in Balasore, they said.

220 personnel of Assam Police found COVID-19 positive till now: DGP

At least 220 personnel of the Assam Police have tested positive for COVID-19 so far and of them, 171 are undergoing treatment at present, Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said on Monday. The DGP said that of those infected, one police personnel belongs to his security team. 

Mahanta said 49 personnel from district police, 112 people from battalions and 10 persons from different allied departments are among those undergoing treatment.

Tamil Nadu reports 3,827 new COVID-19 cases; positive tally reaches 1,14,978

Tamil Nadu reported 61 deaths and 3,827 new COVID-19 positive cases today. The total number of positive cases stands at 1,14,978 including 46,833 active cases and 1,571 deaths, informed the State Health Department.

Delhi: COVID-19 positive journalist kills self by jumping off AIIMS building

A 37-year-old journalist undergoing treatment for COVID-19 at the AIIMS Trauma Centre died after allegedly jumping off the fourth floor of the hospital building on Monday afternoon, police said.

The journalist worked with a Hindi daily and was a resident of northeast Delhi's Bhajanpura, they said.

220 personnel of Assam Police found COVID-19 positive till now: DGP

At least 220 personnel of the Assam Police have tested positive for COVID-19 so far and of them, 171 are undergoing treatment at present, Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said on Monday.

The DGP said that of those infected, one police personnel belongs to his security team.

Karnataka Congress MLA tests positive for COVID-19

A Congress MLA in Karnataka has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been hospitalised here, party sources said on Monday. A medical doctor, H D Ranganath from Kunigal constituency in Tumakuru district has been admitted to a private hospital in the city, they said.

Woman commits suicide in quarantine ward

A 40-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide on Monday after she was isolated in a ward at a Women's College which has been turned into a COVID-19 care centre, police said.

Mariammal was put on quarantine from June 30 after one of her relatives tested positive for COVID-19, the police said. She tested negative for the infection and was about to be discharged, but she was found hanging in the ward, they said.

456 more COVID-19 cases in Odisha, state count reaches 9,526

Odisha on Monday reported 456 new COVID-19 cases, taking the state count of coronavirus cases to 9,526.

"Odisha reports 456 new COVID-19 positive cases and 290 recoveries. Total positive cases in the state stand at 9,526," said the State Health Department.

Out of the total cases, there are 3,254 active cases while 6,224 people have recovered from the illness.

Three more COVID-19 deaths in Rajasthan

Rajasthan reported three COVID-19 deaths and 99 fresh cases of the virus on Monday, according to an official report.

While two deaths were reported from Ajmer, one death was of a patient from outside the state, taking the death toll to 459.

The total number of coronavirus positive cases in the state has increased to 20,263.

Of the total 99 fresh cases, a maximum of 27 cases were reported from Bharatpur.

Other cases were reported from Jaipur (24), Alwar (12), Kota (9), Jhunjhunu (8), Dausa (5), Udaipur (4), Rajsamand (3), Swai Madhopur (3) and one case each in Pali, Nagaur, Bhilwara and Ajmer.

India sees spike of 24,248 COVID-19 cases, tally reaches 6,97,413

India's COVID-19 tally neared the 7 lakh mark with 6,97,413 cases after 24,248 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

As per the Health Ministry, there are 2,53,287 active cases in the country while 4,24,432 patients have been cured or discharged. While one patient has migrated.

425 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours in the country due to COVID-19, taking the number of patients succumbing to the deadly virus to 19,693.

As per the Health Ministry, Maharashtra continues to be the most impacted state from the infection with 2,06,619 cases and 8,822 fatalities due to the virus. Tamil Nadu in second place has a total of 1,11,151 cases and 1,510 fatalities.

The national capital's COVID-19 cases are also nearing the 1-lakh mark with 99,444 coronavirus cases and 3,067 deaths.

The total number of samples tested up to July 5 is 99,69,662 of which 1,80,596 samples were tested yesterday, informed the Indian Council of Medical Research on Monday.

183 new COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir, 5 more deaths reported

A total of 183 more COVID-19 cases were reported in J&K on Sunday, taking the total number of cases in the Union Territory to 8,429.

A statement issued by the Information and Public Relations department said that 51 people tested positive in the Jammu division and 132 in the Kashmir division.

Five COVID-19 patients succumbed on Sunday, taking J&K''s toll to 132.

The number of active cases is 3,042 out of which 462 are in the Jammu division and 2,580 in the Kashmir division.

404 people in Bihar test positive for COVID-19; death toll reaches 90

A total of 404 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Bihar on Sunday, taking the state''s tally to 11,864, while the death toll reached 90 after two patients succumbed to the disease, the health department said.

Both the latest casualties were reported from Bhagalpur district though details of the two deceased such as age, sex, co-morbidities and the time of the deaths were not known.

With four deaths now, Bhagalpur district is in the third position in the state''s list of fatalities along with Begusarai, Muzaffarpur and East Champaran.

Patna has reported the highest number of 12 COVID-19 deaths, followed by five each in Darbhanga, Nalanda, Rohtas and Saran districts.

Of the 404 cases reported during the day, 52 infections were reported from Begusarai (52), followed by Muzaffarpur (45), Patna (38), Vaishali (29), Nalanda and Bhagalpur (22 each) and Nawada (21). The remaining 175 cases were reported from other districts.

All 38 districts in the state have reported COVID-19 cases and Sheohar (99) is the only one left with a tally that is less than a hundred.

Patna district has reported the highest number of 1,003 positive cases till date, while other districts with a high incidence of coronavirus include Bhagalpur (590), Begusarai (528), Madhubani (504) and Siwan (482).

Altogether 8,765 COVID patients have been discharged from isolation wards upon full recovery from the disease, the health department said.

The number of samples tested till date is 2.58 lakh.

With 1 more death, Kerala's COVID-19 toll rises to 27

A 65-year-old man has died due to coronavirus taking the cumulative toll in Kerala to 27.

The deceased, who was a native of Thoppumpady was admitted at Kalamassery Medical College since June 28.

According to the medical bulletin, he was suffering from severe pneumonia. His wife, son and daughter-in-law were also tested Covid-19 positive earlier.

Health Minister KK Shailaja said that as many as 225 new COVID-19 cases were detected in Kerala on Sunday, taking the active cases in the state to 2,228.

43 new coronavirus cases in Indore

As many as 43 new coronavirus cases were reported in Indore taking the total cases in the district to 4,876, according to Chief Medical and Health Officer Praveen Jadia.

With two more deaths, the cumulative toll of the district has reached 246.

India's coronavirus count has reached 6,73,165 including 2,44,814 active cases and 19,268 deaths.

Assam reports 735 new COVID-19 cases

Assam reports 735 new COVID-19 cases

As many as 735 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Assam today, out of which 552 from Guwahati city, said Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday.

The total number of cases in the state rises to 11,736 including 7,433 discharged cases, 4,286 active cases and 14 deaths.

India's coronavirus count has reached 6,73,165 including 2,44,814 active cases and 19,268 deaths.

Telangana reports 1,590 new coronavirus cases, 7 more deaths

Telangana on Sunday recorded 1,590 new COVID-19 cases and seven new deaths, according to the state government's Director of Public Health and Family Welfare.

The state's coronavirus count has touched 23,902 including 12,703 cured/discharged and 295 deaths.

Presently, 10,904 COVID-19 patients are being treated in different hospitals of the state.

Jharkhand reports 53 new cases of COVID-19, 1 more death

Jharkhand on Sunday reported 53 new cases of COVID-19, taking the infection tally in the state to 2,807, according to the state health department.

One more person died due to the contagion, raising the total fatalities in the state to 19, it said in a bulletin.

There are 743 active cases in the state at present.

With five more persons recovering from the disease, the number of recovered people is 2,045, as per the bulletin.

Ranchi has the highest number of fatalities with four deaths, followed by Hazaribag (three), two each in Sahibganj, Bokaro, East Singhbhum and Giridih, and one fatality each in Gumla, Khunti, Koderma and Simdega, it said.

Maharashtra: Nashik reports 204 new COVID-19 cases and 7 deaths

Nashik district in Maharashtra on Sunday reported 204 new COVID-19 cases and seven deaths, an official said.

The overall number of the cases now stands at 5,391 and fatalities at 277.

Five of the seven deaths were reported from areas located under the limits of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) and the rest two from other parts of the district, he said.

Maximum 132 fatalities were reported so far from areas located under the NMC, followed by 76 from Malegaon and 56 from other parts of the district, an official release said.

Among the total cases, maximum 2,942 patients are from Nashik city, 1,086 from Malegaon while 1,229 others are from rest of the district, it stated.

A total of 2,984 patients have recovered from the viral infection so far, including 165 on Sunday.

662 suspected patients were admitted to various hospitals in the district in the day, it said.

A total of 24,248 swab samples have been tested so far.

COVID-19 LIVE: Gujarat'sCOVIDtally crosses 36K with new high of 725 cases

Gandhinagar: Gujarat on Sunday saw a new high of 725 coronavirus cases, taking its tally over the 36,000 mark to 36,123, while the death toll is getting close to the 2,000 mark.

In the last nine days, Gujarat recorded over 600 Covid-19 cases daily, to post a staggering 5,965 cases in this period.

Meanwhile, of the new cases, Ahmedabad's count of 177 was way behind Surat, which saw its highest daily spike of 254. The Diamond City is now emerging as the new hotspot for coronavirus in the state, with Ahmedabad's cases now showing a declining trend.

Ahmedabad was followed by Vadodara with 64, Rajkot with 42, Valsad with 18, Bhavnagar with 16, Bharuch with 15, Junagadh with 13, Kheda with 12, Patan and Gandhinagar with 11 each, Mahesana, Surendranagar and Tapi with nine each, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha and Dahod with eight each, Jamnagar and Panchmahals with six each, Aravalli and Morbi with five each, Gir-Somnath with four, Mahisagar, Botad and Navsari with three each, Kutch with two and Narmada, Chotta Udepur, Amreli and Devbhumi Dwarka with one each.

The state saw 18 deaths on Sunday, where Ahmedabad accounting for half of them, while six died in Surat and one each in Jamnagar, Gandhinagar and Kheda.

With this, the death toll has reached 1,945, with 1,487 of the fatalities in Ahmedabad only. As many as 183 have died in Surat, 53 in Vadodara, 32 in Gandhinagar, 18 in Aravalli, 17 in Patan, 16 in Panchmahals, 13 each in Bhavnagar, Anand and Mahesana, 12 in Rajkot, 11 each in Banaskantha and Kheda and 10 in Bharuch.

At 5.39 per cent, Gujarat has one of the highest mortality rates for corona in the country.

On Sunday, the health authorities carried out the highest number of RT-PCR tests, at 7,770, taking the total number of tests to 4,12,124.

A total of 486 patients were discharged on Sunday, taking the total to 25,900.

The state presently has 8,278 active cases, out of which the condition of 8,206 is stable, while 72 critical patients are still on the ventilator.

There are 2,68,170 people quarantined in the state - 2,65,096 at home and 3,074 in government facilities.
