746 cases, 36 deaths in Nagpur; 965 discharged

Nagpur:The COVID-19 caseload in Nagpur district increased by 746 on Monday, and the death toll by 36, while 965 people were discharged post recovery during the day, an official said. The district now has 82,207 cases, including 2,659 deaths, and the discharge of 69,342 people has left it with 10,206 active ones, he added.

Nagaland registers 42 new COVID-19 cases, one more death

Kohima: Nagaland's COVID-19 caseload rose to 6,594 on Monday as 42 more people tested positive for the infection, while one more death raised the toll to 23, Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom said.

Dimapur recorded 30 new cases, followed by Mon at 8 and Kohima at 4, he said.

Altogether 113 patients were cured of the disease on Monday, taking the total number of recoveries to 5,371, the minister said.

Uttar Pradesh records 63 more COVID-19 deaths, 3,064 new cases

Lucknow:The COVID-19 death toll in Uttar Pradesh reached 6,092 on Monday with 63 fatalities, while 3,064 fresh cases pushed the infection tally to 4,17,437.

A total of 3,66,321 patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovering from the infection, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said.

The recovery rate in the state stands at 87.75 per cent.

At present, there are 45,024 active cases in the state, of which 21,361 are in home isolation and 3,525 others in private hospitals.

Tripura reports 159 new COVID-19 cases, 6 more fatalities

Agartala:  At least 159 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Tripura on Monday, pushing the tally in the state to 27,033.

The death toll rose to 296 with six more people succumbing to the infection.

West Tripura district, of which state capital Agartala is a part, has accounted for 159 of the 296 COVID-19 deaths.

Tripura currently has 4,861 active coronavirus cases, while 21,853 people have recovered from the disease and 23 patients have migrated to other states.

Former Union Min Rasheed Masood dies of COVID

Saharanpur: Former Union Minister Rasheed Masood died on Monday. He was 73. Masood died in a Roorkee nursing home, where he had been admitted recently for the management of some post-COVID-19 complications, said the former Union minister’s nephew Imran Masood. 

Imran Masood, a former MLA, said that his uncle Rasheed Masood had tested positive for the coronavirus infection some time back and had undergone treatment at a Delhi hospital. 

He had recovered from the infection there and had returned to Saharanpur, said Imran. 

His condition, however, deteriorated again a few days ago and he was admitted to a nursing home in Roorkee where he died on Monday morning, said Imran. 

Masood had been a five-time member of the Lok Sabha from Saharanpur

Himachal CM home quarantined self for three days

Shimla: Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has decided to keep himself in-home quarantine for three days as a precautionary measure against COVID, an official spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said the Chief Minister had on October 3 met some persons in Manali, who tested positive for coronavirus infection on Sunday.

The CM will work from home during his quarantine period, he added.

Cases reach close to 2L in Telangana

COVID-19 cases in Telangana state have reached close to 2 lakh.  1,335 COVID cases and 8 deaths are registered in the last 24 hours. A total of 2,00,611 people have been infected with the virus in the state. So far 1,171 people have died.

Another 2,176 members were discharged from the hospital. A total of 1,72,388 patients recovered  

There are currently 27,052 active cases and 22,134members are in home isolation. 262 people were recently infected with the virus in the GHMC range. 137 corona cases were reported in Rangareddy district and 91 in Medchal district. In Nalgonda district 72  and in Karimnagar district 83 people were affected by COVID.

With spike of 74,442 cases, India's tally breaches 66-lakh mark

With a spike of 74,442 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, India's coronavirus tally crossed the 66-lakh mark on Monday, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed.  

With this, the total number of coronavirus cases in the country stands at 66,23,816, including 9,34,427 active cases. The total number of to cured/discharged/migrated cases stood at 55,86,704. 

903 deaths were also reported in last 24 hours taking the total death toll to 1,02,685, it added. 

Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected by the pandemic with 2,55,722 active cases, 11,49,603 cured and discharged cases and 38,084 deaths.

Karnataka with 1,15,593 active cases is the next on the list. While 5,15,782 patients have been cured in the State, the disease has claimed 9,286 lives so far.

Kerala, with 84,579 active cases, is also severely affected, however, 1,44,471 patients have been cured in the State and 836 people have died due to COVID-19.

In Andhra Pradesh, there are 54,400 active cases while 6,58,875 patients have been cured of the disease. Moreover, 5,981 people have succumbed to the virus in the State.

As many as 2,60,350 COVID-19 patients have been cured and discharged in the national capital, which has reported 5,510 deaths so far. Delhi currently has 24,753 active cases.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 7,99,82,394 samples have been tested up to October 4 for COVID-19 in the country. Out of these 9,89,860 samples were tested on Sunday.

Kerala records 8,553 new COVID-19 cases

In the last 24 hours, Kerala recorded 8,553 new COVID-19 cases, taking the state's active COVID-19 cases to 84,497.

The state government informed that 1,44,471 people in the state have recovered from the infection.

"Kerala records 8,553 new COVID-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours. There are 84,497 active cases in the state and 1,44,471 people have recovered from the infection to date," said State Government on Sunday.

Meanwhile, with a spike of 75,829 new cases and 940 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 count crossed 65-lakhs on Sunday, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

Tamannaah Bhatia tests positive  

After her parents, actress Tamannaah Bhatia has tested positive for COVID-19. The actress was in Hyderabad for the shooting of her upcoming web-series when she showed symptoms of Coronavirus. 

She has been reportedly admitted to a private hospital in Hyderabad hospital for further treatment.

Meanwhile, fans across the country have been sending speedy recovery wishes on social media. 

Fans and well-wishers are in shock and are praying for her with 'Get Well Soon' messages on Twitter.

Sikkim reports 43 new  cases, 2 fresh fatalities
Sikkim's COVID-19 tally rose to 3,093 on Sunday as 43 more people tested positive for the infection, while two fresh fatalities pushed the Himalayan state's coronavirus death toll to 45, an official said.

East Sikkim district reported 28 fresh infections, while South Sikkim registered 15 new cases, state EIC member Sonam Bhutia said.

Sikkim now has 649 active coronavirus cases, while 2,399 people have been cured of the disease so far, he said.

A total of 51,634 samples have been tested for COVID- 19 so far, Bhutia added.

993 new cases in Pune city, 38 more die

Maharashtra's Pune city reported 993 new coronavirus cases, which pushed its overall infection count to 1,49,399, a health official said on Sunday.

The death toll due to the virus reached 3,647 as 38 patients succumbed to the infection.

However, 1,428 patients were discharged from hospitals following recovery, he said.

UP Cong leader Naseeb Pathan succumbs to Covid-19

Former Congress MLC Naseeb Pathan died of COVID-19 at the Medanta Hospital on Sunday, with party leaders condoling his demise.

Hailing from Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh, he began his political career with party leader Sanjay Gandhi and was twice elected the MLC in the state.

State Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu said that Pathan was a true fighter in spirits and a very active party worker.

Pathan was among a few Muslim Congress leaders in Uttar Pradesh and a loyalist of the Gandhi family. On Saturday, he had made a video clip from his hospital bed on Rahul Gandhi's and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's visit to Hathras.

Meanwhile, Congress leader took to Twitter to condole the demise of the leader.

Gujarat sees 1,302 more cases, 9 new deaths

Gujarat on Sunday recorded 1,302 new coronavirus cases, taking its tally to 1,42,700, while there were nine deaths - the first time in four months that fatality figures were in single figures - taking the toll to 3,499.

The state, which added 42,676 COVID cases in September with a daily average of 1,422 cases, has seen 5,306 new cases in October so far, at a daily average of 1,326 cases.

A total of 1,246 patients were discharged on Sunday, taking the total to 1,22,365, while there are presently 16,836 active cases, out of which 87 critical patients are on ventilator.

Of the new cases, hotspot Surat led with 283, followed by Ahmedabad with 191, Rajkot with 152, Vadodara with 133 and Jamnagar with 92

Mumbai deaths again highest, state's cases nearing 1.5 mn

Maharashtra's Covid-19 cases neared the 1.5 million mark even as Mumbai fatalities bounced back to the top slot along with Satara, health officials said here on Sunday.

The state witnessed 326 deaths on Sunday, down from the peak of 515 (September 15), and the death toll zoomed from 37,758 to 38,084 now.

With another 13,702 new infections, - nearly 11K lower than the peak single-day tally of 24,886 (September 11) - the state total shot up from 14,30,861 to 14,43,409 cases till date.

In a relief, the state recovery rate also shot up for the third day - from 79.03 per cent to 79.64 per cent - while the current mortality (death) rate stood at 2.64 per cent on Sunday.

Against this, 15,048 fully recovered patients returned home taking up the total number of discharged patients from 11,34,555 to 11,49,603 till date - much higher than the 255,281 'active cases' (ill) currently in the state.

As per the figures on Sunday, there was one death roughly every 4.41 minutes and 571 new cases added every hour to the state tally.

J & K's tally breaches 79K mark

J&K reported 878 COVID cases on Sunday, pushing the union territory's tally to 79,106, health officials said.

A statement issued by the Information and Public Relations department said: Out of the 878 fresh infections, 456 are from Jammu division and 422 from Kashmir division.

So far, 62,404 people have recovered completely.

As many as 1,242 patients have succumbed to the virus, which includes 11 people on Sunday.

The number of active cases is now 15,460, out of which 8,810 are from Jammu division and 6,650 from Kashmir division.

Bengaluru: Karnataka has registered 10,145 new cases on a single day, taking its tally to 6,40,661, including 1,15,574 active cases till date.

"The state registered 10,145 positive cases till Saturday midnight while 7,287 patients recovered, taking the patients discharged so far to 5,15,782," said the state health bulletin on Sunday.

With 67 succumbing to the infection in the last 24 hours, the death toll across the southern state rose to 9,256 since the pandemic broke on March 8.

In Bengaluru, 4,340 new cases were registered, taking its tally to 2,50,040, including 54,929 active cases, while 1,92,043 were discharged, with 2,681 in the last 24 hours.

Of the 847 patients in the intensive care units (ICUs), 293 are in Bengaluru, 93 in Dharwad, 80 in Ballari, 54 in Hassan and 40 in Kalaburagi district.

Of the new cases from districts, Mysuru reported 1,037, Hassan 307, Ballari 304, Dakshina Kannada 293, Shivamogga 279 and Bengaluru Rural 274.

Among the districts patients discharged on recovery, Dakshina Kannada 434, Hassan 411, Tumakuru 347, Mysuru 316, Shivamogga 304, Chitradurga 293, Bengaluru Rural 259 and Ballari 235./Eom/180 words.
