Delhi's COVID-19 tally reaches 1,27,364 with 1,041 fresh cases

The COVID-19 tally in Delhi rose to 1,27,364 on Thursday with 1,041fresh cases, while the death toll mounted to 3,745, authorities said. On Monday, the fresh cases count had dipped to 954, and it increased the next day to 1,349.

Twenty-six coronavirus-related fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the Delhi Health Department bulletin on Thursday.

From July 11 to 19, fresh cases were reported in the range of 1,000-2,000 daily. On July 19, 1,211 fresh cases were reported. The number of active cases on Thursday stood at 14,554, a marginal decline from 14,594, the previous day.

On June 23, the national capital had reported the highest single-day spike of 3,947 new cases.

According to the Thursday bulletin, the death toll due to COVID-19 has risen to 3,745 and the total number of cases mounted to 1,27,364.

Karnataka also witnesses record surge in cases

Karnataka on Thursday recorded a biggest single-day surge of over 5,000 cases and 97 related fatalities, taking the total number of people who tested positive for the virus to 80,863, the health department said.

The day also saw a record 2,071 patients getting discharged after recovery. Out of 5,030 fresh cases reported, a whopping 2,207 cases were from Bengaluru urban alone.

As of July 23 evening, cumulatively 80,863 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 1,616 deaths and 29,310 discharges, the health department said in its bulletin.

UP records yet another spike in daily cases

Uttar Pradesh registered on Thursday yet another largest single-day spike of 2,516 fresh COVID-19 cases taking the tally to 58,104, while the death toll climbed to 1,298 with 35 fatalities.

Additional Chief Secretary (Medical and Health) Amit Mohan Prasad, however, said the state has registered 2,529 fresh cases on Thursday.

AP witnesses highest single-day hike in new cases

A staggering 7,998 fresh Covid-19 cases were added in a day in Andhra Pradesh, pushing the states overall tally to 72,711 on Thursday. Also, 61 new casualties were reported, taking the death toll to 884, according to the latest bulletin.

In the last 24 hours, 5,428 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after they got cured, the bulletin said.

Akali MLA, his son test positive for COVID-19

Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Lakhbir Singh Lodhinangal tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Thursday, a health official said. His samples were taken on Tuesday after the Batala legislator complained of fever and fatigue, an official said. Lodhinangal was admitted to a private hospital in Amritsar.

His son Mandeep Singh has also contracted the infection, the official said.

Lodhinangal was among 12 persons who were infected with coronavirus, said Gurdaspur Civil Surgeon Kishan Chand.

Earlier, state cabinet minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa and two Congress legislators -- Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal and Dharambir Agnihotri -- had also contracted the infection.

Punjab has been seeing a spike in the number of coronavirus cases. The tally stood at 11,739 with 277 deaths as on Thursday.

Over 1,000 new COVID-19 cases for second day in Kerala; Tally crosses 16,000

Kerala's daily COVID-19 cases continued to witness a sharp rise with 1,078 people testing positive, a new single day high, on Thursday as the infection count soared past 16,000 while the toll mounted to 50 with five more deaths.

This is the second consecutive day that the fresh positive cases have crossed the 1,000 mark, taking the tally to 16,110.

On Wednesday, the state had logged 1038 cases, the first time it crossed four digits.

As many as 798 people contracted the virus through contact, 219 returned from overseas and other states while the source of infection of 65 patients was not yet known, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.

The deaths have been reported from Kozhikode, Ernakulam, Parassala, Kollam and Kannur. The active cases touched 9,458while at least 432 were discharged from hospitals after recovery.

A total of 1.58 lakh people are under observation,Vijayan said.

Tripura registered its ninth COVID-19 fatality after a 76-year-old woman succumbed to the disease here, while 126 fresh cases pushed the state's tally to 3,469, an official said on Thursday.

New Delhi: India on Wednesday crossed 12 lakh mark of COVID cases highest single-day spike of  45,720 new cases and 1129 deaths reported in last 24 hours.

According to the Ministry of health and family welfare, total COVID-19 positive cases in India stand at 12,38,635  including 4,26,167 active cases and 7,82,606 who have been cured/discharged. 

The death toll due to the virus stands at 29,861.

Telangana reports 1,554 new cases, 9 fatalities

Telangana on Wednesday reported 1,554 new Covid-19 positive cases and 9 deaths, the state health department said. 

With these new cases, the total number of cases in the state now stands at 49,259 including 11,155 active cases, 37,666 recovered cases and 438 deaths.  

With the spike of 37,724 new cases, India's Covid-19 count stands at 11,92,915 on Wednesday.

The Union Health Ministry on July 22 said that the toll has gone up to 28,732 with 648 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Health Ministry also stated that with 28,472, India has registered highest ever recoveries in a single day, taking the number of patients who have recovered to 7,53,050. This has strongly boosted the recovery rate among Covid-19 patients to 63.13 per cent, it added.

The total number of cases include 4,11,133 active cases, 7,53,050 cured/discharged/migrated and 28,732 deaths, the Health Ministry informed.

Assam's tally crosses 27,000-mark with 972 new cases

'With 972 new coronavirus cases reported in Assam on Wednesday, the tally of people infected with the virus in the state has climbed to 27,744.  

Out of these new cases, 354 cases were recorded from Kamrup (M) and 51 from Jorhat. The total number of cases include 19,350 discharged cases, 8325 active cases and 66 deaths.

"972 new COVID-19 patients in Assam today. Out of these, 354 cases were recorded from Kamrup (M) and 51 from Jorhat. Total number of cases stands at 2774, including 19350 discharged cases, 8325 active cases and 66 deaths," State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed on Wednesday.

Another 1,000-plus new cases send Gujarat's COVID tally above 51K

Gujarat, for the second day running, recorded over 1,000 new Covid-19 cases, taking its tally to 51,485 on Wednesday, while the death toll rose to 2,229.

Gujarat has witnessed nearly 19,000 cases in July so far, with a daily average of over 850 cases.

Of the 1,020 new cases, Surat, the new corona hotspot, accounted for a fourth, with 256 cases, while Ahmedabad had 195 and Vadodara was third with 80 cases.

Rajkot reported 55 cases, Bhavnagar 38, Gandhinagar 31, Junagadh 30, Bharuch and Dahod with 27 each, Mehsana 24, Gir-Somnath and Kutch with 21 each, Surendranagar 20, Banaskantha and Patan with 19 each, Mahisagar 18, Amreli and Navsar with 16 each, Jamnagar 15, Kheda and Narmada with 14 each, Botad nine, Morbi, Sabarkantha and Valsad with eight each, Anand, Chhota Udepur and Panchmahals with seven each, Tapi five and Aravalli with four cases.

Of the 28 new deaths reported on Wednesday, a bulk - 19 - were in Surat, three in Ahmedabad, two in Junagadh and one each in Vadodara, Mahesana, Botad and Dahod.

Maharashtra's daily Covid cases cross 10K, second-highest toll

Maharashtra's daily Covid-19 cases on Wednesday crossed the 10,000 mark for the first time while the state recorded the second-highest figure of deaths and the Pune Metropolitan region surpassed 2,000 fatalities, health officials said.

The state notched a staggering 10,576 new cases, the highest after 9,518 on July 19.

The number of deaths continued to remain in the 200-plus range, at 280 - the second-highest after 295 deaths on July 4.

With the fresh fatalities, the death toll went up to 12,556, while the total cases rose to 337,607 - both highest in the country.

According to Wednesday's figures, there was one death roughly every 5 minutes and a stupendous 441 new cases every hour.

For the third day running, the recovery rate in the state marginally dropped - from 54.72 per cent a day earlier to 54.62 per cent on Wednesday, while the mortality rate stood at 3.72 per cent.

The Health Department said that of the total cases, 136,980 are active.

Meanwhile, 5,552 recovered patients returned home on Wednesday, taking the total number of discharged patients to 187,769.

On Wednesday, Mumbai recorded 58 deaths, taking up the city toll to 5,875 and the number of cases increased by 1,310 to 104,678.

There were also 57 fatalities in Pune, 50 in Thane, 27 in Aurangabad, 16 in Kolhapur, 12 in Solapur, nine in Jalgaon, seven in Nashik, six in Ahmednagar, five in Palghar, four each in Raigad and Sangli, three each in Ratnagiri, Latur, Nanded, Nagpur and Akola, two each in Satara and Parbhani, and one each in Nandurbar, Jalna, Hingoli, Osmanabad and Buldhana, besides one victim from another state.

Tamil Nadu deaths hit 3,144, new cases at 5,859

Tamil Nadu logged a record 5,859 fresh coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours while it discharged a total of 4,910 Covid-19 patients, said the State Health Department.

The total number of Covid-19 deaths in the state went up to 3,144 after adding 444 deaths notified after the report of the Death Reconciliation Committee in Greater Chennai Corporation.

The death reconciliation committee was set up following discrepancies noticed in the toll after it was estimated that deaths at individual homes due to the virus were perhaps going under-reported.

In a statement issued here the department said 5,859 persons tested positive for coronavirus in the state, taking the total tally of infected persons till date in Tamil Nadu to 1,86,492.

A total of 4,910 persons were discharged from various hospitals taking the total number of Covid-19 cured patients to 1,31,583.

The total number of patients who died over the past 24 hours was 75. The number of active Covid-19 cases in the state after taking into account the cured and dead stands at 51,765.

The number of infected children in the state in the age group 0-12 went up to 9,357.

The state capital Chennai continued to head the Covid-19 infection table with 1,171 persons testing positive for the virus and its total tally stands at 89,561. The active cases in the city are at 13,941 while the total number of patients discharged in Chennai stood at 1,731.

Jammu and Kashmir's tally rises to 15,711, death toll to 273

A total of 453 more cases of coronavirus were detected in Jammu & Kashmir on Wednesday while 10 patients in the Union Territory succumbed due to the dreaded virus.

A statement issued by the Information and Public Relations Department said of the new cases, 101 were in the Jammu division and 352 in the Kashmir division.

So far, 15,711 people have been infected with Covid-19 in J&K, out of which 8,607 have completely recovered.

The total number of active cases is 6,831, out of which 1,341 are in the Jammu division and 5,490 in the Kashmir division.

Delhi records 1,227 new cases, 29 deaths in 24 hours

Delhi has recorded 1,227 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of coronavirus cases in the national capital rose to 1,26,323, health department officials said on Wednesday.

A total of 1,07,650 patients have recovered from the disease so far.

This means that the recovery rate is 85.21 per cent in Delhi. Active cases in Delhi are now 14,954 which is 11.8 per cent of the total.

In last 24 hours, 29 people succumbed to the virus, pushing the death toll to 3,719.

A total of 20,060 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, indicating the positivity rate at 6.11 per cent. A total of 8,71,371 samples have been tested so far, as per the Delhi government's data which is 44,282 tests per million.

Meanwhile, 5 more containment zones were added in Delhi since Tuesday, taking the total number of containment zones to 693.

 Jharkhand reports 439 new cases, 3 more die

Jharkhand on Wednesday reported 439 new cases of COVID-19, while three more people died due to the disease, as per the bulletin issued by the state government.

One of the deceased was from Koderma, while the others were from Ranchi, it said.

The state's death toll stands at 64.

There are 3,570 active cases in the state, with the infection tally rising to 6,682, it said.

A total of 3,048 people have so far recovered and discharged from hospitals, the bulletin said.
