India reported 8,171 more COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours as the country's coronavirus count reached 1,98,706, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Tuesday. 

The country reported 204 more deaths caused by the infection in the last 24 hours, taking the deaths to 5,598. India's total corona count includes 97,581 active cases and 95,527 cured/discharged/migrated ones. With the fatality rate of 2.82 per cent -- one of the lowest in the world and recovery pace of 48.07 per cent, India remains on a firmer footing in her fight against coronavirus.

Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan, which houses Civil Aviation Ministry and Airports Authority of India (AAI) offices, has been sealed for sanitisation after 4 AAI employees tested positive for COVID-19, senior government officials said on Tuesday.

"Four AAI employees have tested positive. Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan has been sealed till June 4 for a thorough sanitization," they said. On April 22, the Civil Aviation Ministry wing of the Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan was sealed for three days after an employee of the ministry tested positive for the disease.

Institutional quarantine period doubled in Odisha's Kendrapara amid spike in COVID-19 cases

The Kendrapara district administration on Tuesday increased the period of mandatory institutional quarantine to 14 days from one week amid a spike in COVID-19 cases, a senior official said.

Migrant returnees in rural areas of the state are placed under seven-day institutional quarantine and another week of home isolation, while in urban areas, a 14-day home quarantine is mandatory.

Combating COVID-19: Karnataka CM holds video conference with DCs, SPs

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Tuesday interacted with District Collectors (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) regarding COVID- 19 situation in the State.

In the meeting held through a video conference, he said that DCs, SPs and the District Panchayat Chief Executive Officer (CEO) be divided into taluks and ordered them to take appropriate measures to control COVID-19.

He was speaking today in a video conversation with District Collector, District Panchayat Chief Executives and Superintendents of Police in Kalaburgi, Vijayapura, Udupi, Yadagiri, Raichuru and Belagavi districts regarding measures to control the spread of COVID-19.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to monitor the investments in taluka centres. He also ordered to create a task force in the village panchayats, who will be monitoring things closely.

The Chief Minister also directed for the creation of ward-level watchdog committee in every village and city and an FIR should be registered in case of a home quarantine violation.

10 people test positive for COVID-19 at Delhi LG's office

As many as 10 people have tested positive for COVID-19 at Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal's office situated at Raj Niwas Marg, Civil Lines, New Delhi, said sources.

All those working at the LG's office have undergone COVID-19 tests and their reports are pending. As per the sources, the data is being compiled and reports of the house staff will come today following which the figures will be released.

The first case came from the extended branch of the Lieutenant Governor's office following which 10 workers were found positive for COVID-19 there.

Punjab Chief Minister launches anti-COVID awareness drive

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has launched a month-long drive, as part of 'Mission Fateh', to spread awareness about COVID-19.

He urged the people of Punjab to follow social distancing norms, wash hands properly and wear face masks to make the state win the battle against the virus.

"We have to control the disease and take care of people of Punjab," Singh said.

"The campaign, which will broaden the ambit of Mission Fateh beyond the frontline workers, will bring the people of Punjab into its fold to make the fight against COVID a battle of the people, by the people and for the people," said the Chief Minister.

Describing 'Mission Fateh' as a symbol of the resolve of the people of Punjab to check the spread of novel coronavirus through discipline, cooperation and compassion, the Chief Minister stressed the need for adherence to all safety protocols, cooperation with the state government through compliance with the lockdown restrictions, and compassion towards the poor.

With 8,171 more cases, India's COVID-19 tally reaches 1,98,706

India on Tuesday reported 8,171 more COVID-19 cases and 204 deaths in the last 24 hours as the country's virus count inches closer to two lakh, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The total number of cases in the country now stands at 1,98,706 including 97,581 active cases, 95,527 cured/discharged/migrated and 5,598 deaths.

Cases in Maharashtra have crossed 70,000 including over 30,000 recovered while Tamil Nadu's COVID-19 tally jumped to 23,495.

Goa govt declares Mangor Hill as containment zone

Goa Health Secretary Nila Mohanan on Monday declared Mangor Hill as containment zone after a man and his wife tested positive for COVID-19.

"Two more confirmed case, both members of a family from Mangor-Hill, Vasco. We are doing contact tracing. The Mangor Hill has been declared as containment zone," Mohanan said during a press conference.

In view of the new cases reported, Mohanan said, "Extensive testing of people from Mangor Hill will be carried out."

"It is too premature to call this community transmission; we are tracking and locating the history of the cases," she added.

New Delhi: A 63-year old man who tested positive for coronavirus and was undergoing treatment at Batra Hospital was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his room, according to Delhi Police.

According to the department, he was found hanging in his room at around 4 pm on May 31.

The deceased, Ramesh, was admitted for dialysis, as he was suffering from kidney related ailment, in Batra Hospital on May 20.

He was detected COVID-19 positive also and was undergoing treatment at the same facility.

No suicide note was recovered, inquest proceedings are underway.
