Earlier, Laxshmi's wife Smita had tested positive for the viral disease. However, she recovered quickly.

Dharavi adds 9 new COVID-19 cases; doubling rate over 238 days

The tally of COVID-19 cases in Dharavi slum here rose to 2,540 on Monday with the addition of nine new cases, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.

The biggest slum, once a COVID-19 hotspot, now has only 98 cases, an official said.

Human clinical trial of COVID-19 vaccine 'Covaxin' begins at Odisha hospital

The human clinical trial of indigenously developed Covaxin, a possible vaccine against the novel coronavirus, began at an institute here on Monday, a senior official said.

The much-awaited trial of BBV152 COVID-19 vaccine or Covaxin commenced at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, one of the 12 centres selected by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for conducting phase one and two of the process, the official at the facility said.

TN reports nearly 7,000 cases for third day, tally zooms to 2.21 lakh

Tamil Nadu on Monday reported 6,993 fresh COVID cases, the highest single-day spike, taking the tally to 2,20,716 while 77 deaths propelled the toll to 3,571.

As many as 63,250 samples were tested, taking the total specimens screened to 24,14,713 so far.

Three more people succumbed to COVID-19 in Puducherry taking the toll to 43 while 86 fresh cases were reported, a top Health department official said on Monday.

The 86 new cases pushed the overall tally of cases in the union territory to 2,872, Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a press statement.

COVID-19: 2 more die in Tripura, 37 fresh cases reported

Two more COVID-19 patients died in Tripura, taking the state's toll to 13, while 37 new cases pushed its tally to 3,920, a health department official said on Monday.

A 76-year-old man died due to the disease at a hospital in Gomati district on Sunday. He was also suffering from kidney ailments, according to the official.

Telangana reports 1,473 new COVID-19 cases, overall tally crosses 55K mark

Telangana reported 1,473 new COVID-19 cases, taking the overall tally in the state to 55,532.

Of the 1,473 fresh cases, 506 were from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), followed by Ranga Reddy (168), Warangal Urban (111) and Sangareddy (98) districts, a state government bulletin said on Monday, providing data as of 8 pm on July 26.

Delhi's COVID-19 tally rises to 1,31,219 with 613 fresh cases; toll mounts to 3,853

Delhi recorded 613 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday, taking the national capital's tally to over 1.31 lakh, while the death toll due to the disease mounted to 3,853, authorities said.

On Sunday, the city had reported 1,075 fresh COVID-19 cases.

RJD chief Lalu Prasad tests negative for COVID-19

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president and former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad, who is serving a sentence in the fodder scam, has tested negative for coronavirus, though his attendant has been found positive. The attendant has been quarantined.

According to sources at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, Prasad's test result came on Sunday evening which was found negative. He has exhibited no symptoms of coronavirus.

Sources say that his sample will be re-examined after four-five days.

Dr Umesh Prasad, who is in-charge of Prasad's treatment at RIMS, said that it was decided to check his sample as a precautionary measure. He said at present no symptoms of Covid-19 have been detected in Prasad.

Lalu Prasad has been undergoing treatment for various ailments at RIMS from December 2018 after his conviction in a fodder scam case. His condition has been reported to be stable.

Prasad's lawyer has applied for regular bail.

34 fresh COVID-19 cases in Andamans; count rises to 324

Thirty-four more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, taking the Union Territory's caseload to 324 on Monday, health officials said.

The fresh infections have pushed the number of active cases in the islands to 142, while 182 people have recovered from COVID-19, including six in the past 24 hours, they said.

Over 1,500 new cases push Odisha's COVID-19 tally to 26,892; death toll climbs to 147

Odisha's COVID-19 tally shot up to 26,892 with 1,503 fresh cases, while the death toll rose to 147 as seven more people succumbed to the virus, a health department official said on Monday.

Three deaths were reported from Ganjam and a fatality each was recorded in Sundergarh, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Malkangiri districts, he said.

Highest single-day spike of 49,931 cases reported in last 24 hours

India's COVID tally on Monday crossed 14 lakh mark with the highest single-day spike of 49,931 cases reported in the last 24 hours, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The total COVID-19 cases stand at 14,35,453, including 4,85,114 active cases, 9,17,568 cured/discharged/migrated, it added.

With 708 deaths in the last 24 hours, the cumulative toll reached 32,771.

India had crossed 13 lakhs COVID-19 cases on July 25.

Maharashtra has reported 3,75,799 coronavirus cases, the highest among states and Union Territories in the country.

A total of 2,13,723 cases have been reported from Tamil Nadu till now, while Delhi has recorded a total of 1,30,606 coronavirus cases.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 5,15,472 samples were tested for coronavirus on Sunday and overall 1,68,06,803 samples have been tested so far.

Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan tests positive again on Monday

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday said that he has tested coronavirus positive. Chouhan shared the news on Twitter in the morning.

"I had symptoms of COVID-19. In the test report, I was found positive. I appeal to all my colleagues that whoever has come in my contact to get tested for coronavirus. My close contacts should move to quarantine," Chouhan said in a tweet. 

In another tweet, the chief minister said that if detected and treated on time, COVID-19 infection can be cured.

43 test positive for Covid-19 after attending wedding in Kerala's Kasargod, case filed

The Kasargod district authority has filed a case after a total of 43 persons tested positive for COVID-19 after attending a wedding function held in the district.

The Badiyudukka police have registered a case against the bride's father under Kerala Epidemic Diseases ordinance 2020.

The bride and groom have also tested positive for the novel coronavirus after the marriage function which was held on July 17 at Chengala, Kasargod.

The district collector has asked people who had attended the marriage function to stay in home quarantine and to contact the nearest health centre if symptoms develop.

Over 1,500 COVID-19 beds available in four govt hospitals in Delhi

Following a decline in the number of COVID-19 cases in the national capital, over 1,500 COVID-19 beds are available in four government hospitals in Delhi, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

"Visible results of the Union Govt's effective intervention in managing #COVID19 situation in Delhi are apparent in number of COVID beds available in the 3 Central Govt hospitals and #AIIMS, New Delhi," the Union Health Ministry said in a tweet on Monday.

According to the Ministry, there are 404 COVID-19 beds vacant in Safdarjung hospital, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia hospital and Lady Hardinge Medical College. AIIMS has 1,283 beds available.

"In Dr RML, Safdarjung and LHMC hospitals, against a total of 529 COVID beds, 404 COVID beds are vacant today morning at 7 am," said the Ministry in a tweet.

"Against a total number of 1,515 COVID beds in AIIMS, New Delhi, 1,283 beds are vacant today at 7 am," it said.

With 1,075 new cases, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the national capital reached 1,30,606 including 11,904 active cases. While 1,14,875 recoveries have been reported in the Delhi so far, the death toll stands at 3,827.

35 fresh COVID-19 cases detected in UP's Bahraich: Official

Thirty-five more people, including 12 of a family, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich on Sunday, an official said.

Chief Medical Officer of Bahraich Dr Suresh Singh said 12 family members of a jewellery trader have tested positive for the virus.

He said five members of another family in the district have been afflicted with COVID-19.

Apart from the two families, 18 people in Bahraich have contracted the infection, Singh said.

COVID-19 LIVE: Highest spike of 49,931 cases, total crosses 14 lakh mark

Hyderabad:Hyderabad Mayor Bonthu Rammohan on Sunday said he has tested positive for COVID-19 but was asymptomatic.

Rammohan and his family took the test here on Saturday, a press release from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) said. His family members have tested negative for the virus. 

Rammohan said he has isolated himself and had to hold a meeting with civic officials through video-conference to review developmental and welfare measures taken up by the GHMC. 

He said he would again undergo tests and that he would donate plasma after recovery. 

In June, the Mayor said, he took the tests twice and the results were negative.
