India reports 909 fresh cases of COVID-19, count hits 8,356 : Lav Aggarwal

With 909 fresh cases of coronavirus reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of confirmed cases in the country has reached 8,356 including 273 deaths, said Lav Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Health and Family Welfare on Sunday.

While 716 people have been recovered so far, he said.

"A total of 8,356 confirmed cases have been reported in India including 273 deaths and 716 people who were COVID-19 positive have been recovered. Out of the total deaths, 34 deaths have been reported during the day," Aggarwal said.

He said that the government is increasing the testing capacity in private and government medical colleges.

"We have a detailed discussion with the Health Minister and Home Minister according to which we are increasing testing capacity in private and government medical college," he said.

"To support this effort, 14 mental institutes have been identified including AIIMS and Nimhans, through which we will increase our testing capacity in government medical colleges," he said.

2 new cases in Kerala, total under treatment stands at 194

Trivandrum:Kerala Health Minister K.K. Shailaja on Sunday informed that there were two new coronavirus positive cases in the state, taking the total number presently under treatment to 194.

In all, the tally of those presently affected and cured stands at 373.

"Today there are 1,16,125 people under observation at homes and 816 at various hospitals in the state," said Shailaja and pointed out that the two who tested positive on Sunday had come from the Middle East.

Two deaths had been reported previously, but those patients had other serious underlying ailments.

On Saturday, a 71-year-old Mahe resident who turned positive on April 7 passed away at Pariyaram Medical College hospital, Kannur. He was a chronic kidney patient.

Maharashtra: 30 nurses have been put under quarantine at Ruby Hall Hospital after a 45-year-old nurse working here tested positive for COVID-19.

The nurse who has been tested positive had recently returned from leave and after she felt mild symptoms she was tested for COVID-19 in which she was found positive.

Union Health Ministry: 

  • On March 29, we had 979 positive cases,now we've 8356 positive cases; of these 20% cases need ICU support. So, today too 1671 patients need oxygen support & critical care treatment. This figure is important to show that govt is planning things in being over prepared.
  • Situation regarding essential commodities is under control in the MHA control room, officials of Ministries of Civil Aviation, Consumer Affairs and Railways have been working in coordination with states to resolve logistics problems.
  • More than 15,700 samples being tested everyday.
  • 34 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
  • In the last five days, the average number of samples that have been tested is 15,747 per day and the average number of samples which tested positive is 584.

Madhya Pradesh: 49 more Coronavirus positive cases had come yesterday so the total number of positive cases in Indore district rises to 298. 

The death toll has gone up to 32 after test results of 2 people, who had died earlier, came yesterday. 

3 new positive cases have been reported today in Bhopal. We are tracing their contact history. With this, the total COVID-19 cases in Bhopal stands at 134.

A total of 31 deaths reported in Pune till now, including two residents of Thane and Ahmednagar who died here.

COVID-19 LIVE: Positive cases in India reaches 8356, death toll at 273

New Delhi: With 34 deaths and 909 new positive COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the total number of coronavirus cases in India on Sunday climbed to 8356, including 716 cured and discharged and 273 deaths, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

At present, there are 7367 active COVID-19 cases in the country."A total number of COVID-19 positive cases rises to 8356 in India, including 716 cured/discharged, 273 deaths and 1 migrated," said the Health Department.

The highest number of positive cases of coronavirus was reported from Maharashtra at 1761, including 127 deaths, followed by Delhi (1069 and 19 deaths), Tamil Nadu (969 and 10 deaths) and Rajasthan (700 and 3 deaths).

There are 452 coronavirus positive cases in Uttar Pradesh, including 45 cured and discharged and 5 deaths.

The states which have crossed 200-mark for COVID-19 positive cases also include Madhya Pradesh (532), Telangana (504), Gujarat (432), Andhra Pradesh (381) and Kerala (364).

 While 19 people were detected positive for coronavirus in Chandigarh, 207 cases were confirmed from Jammu and Kashmir and 15 from Ladakh.

In North-East, Assam has confirmed the highest number of corona positive cases at 29, followed by Manipur and Tripur at two each and Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh at one each.
