COVID-19: Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind urges Muslims to offer Namaaz at home

Prominent Muslim body Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind today once again appealed to the people to offer Namaaz at their homes instead of congregating at mosques in view of the COVID-19 lockdown orders.

New Delhi: In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind on Friday urged the Muslim community to offer Namaz at home instead of congregating in mosques.

Prominent Muslim body Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind President Maulana Arshad Madani said, "All Muslims should pray in their own homes as they did last week."

"I also appeal the citizens to follow the instructions of Health Ministry and other orders by the Centre to defeat coronavirus completely," he added.

Umer Ahmed Ilyasi, chief Imam of All India Imam Organisation also appealed to the Muslim community to maintain social distancing and offer prayers in their homes till the lockdown ends.

Last Friday, the All India Muslim Personal Board (AIMPLB) had also urged people to offer Zuhar Namaaz at homes instead of praying Juma at mosques in view of the coronavirus pandemic.

Notably, a Tablighi Jamaat gathering in Delhi has emerged as a huge coronavirus hotspot and 9,000 of its members and their primary contacts have been quarantined till now in the country.

On Thursday, 10 people were arrested by the Noida police for allegedly gathering for prayers in violation of lockdown restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus threat.
