Chennai (Tamil Nadu):In an attempt to minimize hand contact and to contain the spread of the deadly virus, Chennai Metro Rail Network has started foot-operated elevators on a trial basis at Chennai Metro Railway Station (CMRS) Head Office.
With this, Chennai becomes the first city in India to put forward the mechanism of hand-free, foot-operated lifts which is presently installed in the Administrative Building CMRS at Koyembedu. In a foot-operated elevator pedal system, people can use the lift without touching the buttons.
The authorities said that all the metro stations will soon have this design.
