COVID-19 cases in India spikes to 34, PM reviews preparedness to counter outbreak

Three more positive cases of novel coronavirus have been reported in India taking the total number of confirmed cases to 34, Union Health Ministry said on Saturday. Of the three, two are from Ladakh with travel history to Iran while one is from Tamil Nadu who had visited Oman, the ministry said, adding all the patients are stable.

New Delhi:Three more positive coronavirus cases have been detected in India on Saturday.

Health Ministry officials said that two cases have been detected in Ladakh whereas one case has been detected in Tamil Nadu. With this, the total number of positive Covid-19 case has touched 34 in the country.

Officials said that the two patients from Ladakh have travel history to Iran whereas one person found positive in Tamil Nadu had traveled to Oman.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the situation and actions taken so far by various Ministries.

Prime Minister Modi suggested that people should be advised to avoid mass gathering as far as possible and be made aware of the do's and don'ts.

The Prime Minister directed that an immediate exercise be taken up to identify sufficient locations for quarantine and also for critical care provisioning in case the disease spread.

The meeting was attended by Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, Minister of State for Health Ashwini Kumar Chaubey, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba and several other top officials from different ministries.

Officials from the Department of Pharmaceuticalswho were present in the meeting have conveyed about the availability of sufficient stocks of medicines and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) and other consumables for use in India.
