Coronavirus: ITBP all set to quarantine new batch of Indians from Wuhan

Indo Tibetan Border Police is ready to quarantine next batch of Indians coming from Novel Coronavirus hit-Wuhan at its Chawala camp. IAF flight is expected to carry at least 120 Indians from Wuhan who will be taken to the camp for quarantine and medical check-ups.

New Delhi: The Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is all set to quarantine next batch of Indians coming from Wuhan at its Chawala camp. Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba on Saturday held a high-level review meeting with all concerned secretaries in New Delhi over Novel Coronavirus.

Speaking exclusively with ETV Bharat, ITBP spokesperson Vivek Pandey said, "The Indian Air Force (IAF) flight is expected to carry at least 120 Indians from Wuhan. And as soon as they land in Delhi, we will bring them to our Chawala camp for quarantine and all medical check-up."

The IAF's largest transport aircraft, the Boeing C-17 Globemaster -III will fly to Wuhan with all medical equipment to aid China's struggle against Covid-19 outbreak.

"On its way back, the aircraft is expected to evacuate and carry at least 120 Indians from Wuhan. The aircraft will carry all medical essentials including masks, medicine etc," said Pandey.

India is providing all medical assistance to China as a token of India's solidarity, particularly in the 70th years of the anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nation.

Covid-19 so far has killed 2,240 people in China.

Pandey said that ITBP Chawala camp is all set with medical staff and all other required staff members for quarantine.

"Earlier we have sent 406 people to their homes after making proper quarantine...this time disinfection has already been done at the Chhawala camp. We have a team of 12-15 doctors mostly from ITBP. Doctors from CRPF and Safdarjang hospital are also helping us," said Pandey.

Giving further details, Pandey said that ITBP is in constant touch with the health ministry as well as Safdargang hospital.

"It's a joint initiative. We are ready to serve people coming from Wuhan. We have made all arrangements for families also," said Pandey adding proper entertainment, Wi-Fi facility and all other basic requirements have been made available at the Chawala camp.

He said that there are 4 isolation bed at the Safdargang hospital apart from 4 emergency vehicle.

On earlier occasions at least 406 people including 7 people from the Maldives have been quarantined at the Chawala camp before they were departed for their homes after almost 17 days.

Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba held a high-level meeting to review the status and actions taken and preparedness of States and Union Territories regarding the management of Novel Coronavirus.

Secretaries of Health and Family Welfare, Civil Aviation, Home Affairs, Defence, Information and Broadcasting were also present in the meeting.

After a detailed review in addition to the universal screening as per earlier advisors, universal screening at airports is now being planned for flights from Kathmandu, Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia. Citizens are also advised to avoid all non-essential travel to Singapore.
