Coronavirus: DGCA issues social distancing guidelines for airlines, airport operators

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Monday issued several guidelines on social distancing for airlines and airport operators as the number of cases in India soared to 415 and the government clamped a lockdown in many states.

New Delhi:The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Monday came out with a slew of measures for airlines and airports on social distancing, which include ensuring adequate space between passengers and check-in counters and leaving one seat vacant between two passengers, among others.

According to the circular issued by the aviation regulator, there must be an adequate space between the passengers while issuing boarding passes to the flyers.

The circular also advised the airport ensure an ample number of security staffs in order to avoid congestion during security checkups.

It also said the airports' authorities to make a public announcement regularly to aware the passengers about the deadly virus infection.

The circular also directed the airline to equipped the flights with hand wash and sanitizers as per the directions of the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The total number of novel coronavirus cases in India rose to 415 today after 30 fresh cases were reported, according to Health Ministry data. The figure includes 41 foreign nationals and the seven deaths reported so far.

The 415 figure also includes 24 people who have been cured, discharged or migrated, it said. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said 18,383 samples have been tested till 10 am on Monday.
