New Delhi:After the Attorney General of India, KK Venugopal gave his nod to initiate criminal contempt proceedings against stand up comedian Kunal Kamra for his tweets against the Supreme Court, a bunch of law students have filed a plea in the court.
"The citizens of India have highest regard to the courts of law. No law abiding citizen of this country would tolerate such act of publication of tweets by the alleged contemnor," read the plea. Further, the petitioners contend that Kamra does not deserve any sympathy even if he apologises. The tweets were so bad in taste that even a common man would agree on the ground of Contempt, added the petitioners.
On November 11, the comedian had posted 4 tweets and a morphed picture of the Supreme Court in orange colour when the court was hearing Republic TV Editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami's bail plea.
Court had assembled amid their Diwali break and had observed that Goswami can not be denied personal liberty and had granted him bail.
