Constitution for Indians, not three families: BJP slams Mehbooba

BJP Spokesperson Nupur Sharma slammed PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, who called for the restoration of Article 370, and said that the Indian Constitution was made for all citizens and not just for the benefit of three families, referring to the PDP, NC, and Congress.

New Delhi:The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday strongly objected to PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti's remarks calling for the restoration of Article 370, and said that the Indian Constitution was made for the citizens of the country, and not "three political families".

On a question from ETV Bharat, BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma slammed the Congress, PDP, and NC for exploiting the provisions of the Constitution to "enjoy" remaining in power.

"Which Constitution is Mehbooba Mufti talking about? In the Indian Constitution, Article 370 was always a temporary provision. Even our Constitution-makers' intention was that the provision will be removed someday," Sharma said.

"I want to ask, is Mufti talking about those three political families which used Articles 370 and 35-A to enjoy the benefits of power? They thought Jammu and Kashmir was their personal property," she added.

Sharma further attacked Mufti and said that no citizen cared whether she wanted to contest elections.

"If you say you don't want to contest elections till Article 370 is restored... nobody cares."

"The Constitution was not made for the Abdullahs, Muftis, or the Gandhis, it was made for the people of India," she added.

Sharma also hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who had attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a poll rally in Bihar yesterday, claiming that China had intruded into Indian soil.

"Do you (Rahul Gandhi) have no shame? When the soldiers say even an inch of our land was not given, you have no shame while making fun of their martyrdom? If the Congress, Muftis, and Abdullahs have so much love for China and Pakistan, why not contest elections there? Why are they questioning our Constitution?" Sharma asked.

Earlier yesterday, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti, addressing media for the first time since her release from a 14-month detention, called for the restoration of Article 370.
