Congress supports government on handling Hindu terrorism issue well at UNGA

Congress says it was satisfied the way Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was answered by India's team at the UNGA on the issue of Hindu terrorism, the term used by Congress leader Sushil Kumar Shinde while serving as union home minister in the Manmohan Singh government.

New Delhi: Congress on Saturday supported the union government's stand on Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's comment on Hindu Terrorism.

Khan, while addressing the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Friday reportedly referred to the statement of Congress leader Sushil Kumar Shinde, who then was union home minister in the Manmohan Singh government, wherein he had said that RSS was training terrorists in the country.

Speaking to reporters at the party headquarters here, Congress spokesperson Pranav Jha said Khan was answered well by the people of the Indian mission at the UNGA and the party supports the way Khan was answered on the issue.

He also said that Khan was doing it to promote certain agenda and the world is fully aware of it. "We support what foreign secretary said in the meeting at the UNGA," Jha said, adding that it was the right reply to Khan's comment.

Earlier in the day, the BJP had reacted sharply and asked for an apology from the Congress, former prime minister Manmohan Singh and Shinde, saying they helped Pakistan Prime Minister in maligning India's image.
