New Delhi: A social media outrage against Editor of Republic TV Arnab Goswami saw the journalist on top-trending hashtags in India on Wednesday. Congress party bashed Goswami calling him anti-India and hate monger.

During a TV debate over Palghar incident, Goswami had attacked Congress President Sonia Gandhi over her silence on Palghar mob-lynching in which two Hindu Sadhus and a driver were killed by an unruly mob.

Over his derogatory remarks on Gandhi, Congress spokesperson Gourav Vallabh said, "Arnab Goswami has crossed all the limits of a low level of journalism. I don't believe that you are a journalist. You have mentioned about religion many times in your debate. But what role do you play in your life- Humanity, Journalism or being a good citizen? You just play a role to gain money and to divide this nation."

Congress has also released a video of Sonia Gandhi's speech of 1999, in which she has been seen saying that she is serving this country for the last 52 years. She got married here, became a mother and even lost her husband as well as her mother-in-law in this country. She also stated that she would even like to take her last breath while serving this country.

Gourav Vallabh further stated, "I just want to remind you that the Hindu religion is based upon the teachings to respect elders, women and devotion. You can learn all the three things from that woman for whom you have made these derogatory remarks."

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot called Republic TV head 'insane' in his tweet. He also demanded BJP MP Rajeev Chandrashekhar to 'sack' Goswami from Republic TV immediately.

Reacting over Goswami's remarks, Congress senior leader Rashid Alvi even questioned the level of journalism in the current times.

He said, "I don't think that Arnab Goswami is a well-educated person. The kind of debates he is doing and his body language, that is shameful. Legal action should be taken against him as well as his channel immediately. This is neither Freedom of Speech nor Freedom of Expression."

It is to be noted that some media reports are citing that an FIR has been registered in Chhattisgarh against the anchor.

As per sources, Maharashtra Government is also mulling action against Goswami and other news anchors for spreading rumours and inciting communal hatred in the country over Palghar incident.
