New Delhi: Congress, on Thursday, sought "identification" of the group of Armed Forces Veterans who have criticized the party's former President, Rahul Gandhi's tweet on Indo-China border dispute.
A group of 71 Defence Force Veterans released a press statement over Gandhi's tweet by calling it "undesirable and deplorable". They also stated that Gandhi's earlier statements on Pakistan were "used and supported" by their Government and their military which "encouraged the anti-national forces".
Replying to their statement, Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, during a press conference, "First of all there should be transparency for such statements, whoever has written this letter. It should be mentioned in the letter that those army veterans have now belongs to which institution, as I speak here as a spokesperson of my party. So, on whose proxy this letter has been written by these veterans?"
"It is necessary to ask that how many of these Defence veterans are a member of BJP," said Pranav Jha, media coordinator of Congress, who was also present during the press briefing.
Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday, alleged that Chinese troops have intruded into India's territory and questioned PM's silence over the matter.
While slamming the veterans' statement, Singhvi stated a quote from 'The Friends of Voltaire', that says, "I will defend to the death your right to speak against me". He further added, "Do you believe in the right to question the Government? Your letter is having a smell of that you want to suppress the voice of democracy. Why there should just be one single voice in the country?"
