New Delhi: The Central Election Authority (CEA) of Congress party, headed by Madhusudan Mistry, expected to meet on Tuesday to discuss over the proposal of conducting digital elections for the party President.

This will happen for the first time in the history of the grand old party, where all the members of All India Congress Committee (AICC) will be provided with digital cards with all their details embedded into it.

Each ID card will also have a barcode to reduce the chances of error during elections.

"A meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday. We will discuss about the matter of giving digital cards to AICC members and how it will be managed," said a member of CEA, while speaking to ETV Bharat.

The Authority has asked AICC delegates from across the country for their digital photographs.

According to the sources, CEA has received the AICC members' list from all states, except for two.

Another member who is involved in the exercise told ETV Bharat that the proposal of digital IDs was being made but a final decision is yet to be taken. Once the CEA approve this proposal, it will seek a nod of Congress Working Committee (CWC) to conduct elections.

Congress began its process of electing new president after 23 senior leaders of the party wrote a dissent letter to Sonia Gandhi demanding a complete organizational overhaul.

There is a repeated demand within the Congress party for a comeback of Rahul Gandhi to the president post.

However, if a contender emerges during elections, then CEA will have to conduct the entire voting exercise with a proper schedule, including the ballot voting.

The CEA formed by Sonia Gandhi comprises of Krishna Byre Gowda, Arvinder Singh Lovely, Rajesh Mishra, Jothimani as its members and Madhusudan Mistry as its convenor.
