Congress leaders to discuss COVID-19 lockdown implications at CWC meet on April 23

A meeting of Congress top brass is scheduled to be held on April 23, at 10:30 am under the leadership of party interim president Sonia Gandhi, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal informed on Tuesday. The agenda of the meeting will be- 'issues and implications' of the nationwide lockdown.

New Delhi:The top leadership of Congress is likely to discuss the implications and consequent issues of extended nationwide lockdown, imposed in the wake of rising cases of novel Coronavirus infection, at party's Working Committee meeting, which is scheduled on April 23, 2020, at 10:30 am.

The meeting will be conducted via video conferencing under the leadership of party president Sonia Gandhi. Along with the CWC members, all the Chief Ministers of Congress-led state governments will also be present during the meeting.

Congress General Secretary, KC Venugopal, informed in his tweet, "A meeting of Congress CWC will be held on Thursday, April 23, at 10:30 am, through video conferencing to discuss the current COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown situation. All CWC members, permanent and special invitees, CMs of Congress-ruled states will take part in the meeting."

Congress has remained critical of the Government's handling of the country's situation, arose due to COVID-19 pandemic, suggesting various measures for the containment of infection as well as to prepare for its economic impact on the nation.

Earlier today, Congress Consultative Group also held a meeting, headed by former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, stressing over the need to give priority to MSME sector because of its social and economic importance as it provides the largest number of jobs in the country. The Group will also submit a concrete action plan for MSME revival package.

Congress has also accused the government of not taking adequate steps to mitigate the plight of migrant workers. In today's meeting, the party's former President Rahul Gandhi again asserted upon the need to take steps in a "strategic manner" in the fight against COVID-19.
