Community kitchens serving poor amid lockdown in Himachal Pradesh

People in Nahan have set up community kitchens where food is delivered to more than 1,000 poor and needy families who are left without any food or money amid the nationwide lockdown to flatten the curve of coronavirus.

Nahan (Himachal Pradesh): Amid the nationwide lockdown these days, every section of the society is playing its role and helping each other in fight against coronavirus.

During the lockdown and curfew in Himachal, the biggest problem faced by the people was to provide food to poor and migrant labourers. In such a situation, many people of the society came forward and extended their helping hand to these poor people.

In Nahan, Himachal Pradesh, some young businessmen, sportsmen and councilors are running a community kitchen together from where food is delivered to about 1,000 families every day.

As due to the lockdown all hotels, dhabas schools and colleges were closed, many migrant workers and students from outside the state got stuck in Nahan.

For such needy people, some businessmen, sportsmen, councilors, youth of the city jointly took an initiative of establishing a community kitchen where food is being prepared with utmost care and then it is boxed and parceled and then delivered to the homes of the needy.

According to Ashutosh Gupta, a young businessman who played an important role in this campaign, the people of the city are also helping to run the community kitchen.

Initially, lunch and dinner were arranged for 250 houses from this kitchen, but now this figure has reached 1100.

Through social media, such needy people are being asked to give their phone numbers.

As soon as the needy people make a call, the food is delivered at their places. Many people of the city are also donating for this campaign.

International ultra marathon runner Sunil Sharma is also involved in this campaign and himself delivers the food parcels at the doorsteps of the needy people.

Runner Sunil Sharma said that this time is not about caste, religion, politics but to show humanity and the only purpose of this community kitchen is that no person should go hungry.
