Coimbatore: Young entrepreneur manufactures reusable cotton pads, employs 15 women workers

Ishana (18), an entrepreneur started a firm where she and 15 other women workers manufacture reusable cotton pads. She is pitching corporate CSR teams to join her journey so that other unprivileged women can also use this.

Coimbatore: An 18-year-old woman entrepreneur, who has started manufacturing reusable cotton pads is looking for corporates which can join her journey in making environment-friendly pads accessible to most women in the country.

Hailing from Ganapathi, Ishana enrolled herself in a six-month fashion designing course right after her higher secondary education.

It all started when she went in search of a 'comfortable' napkin for herself. She ended up making one for herself.

It occurred to her that there might be tens and thousands of women like her looking for an alternative to synthetic sanitary napkins. Her thoughts turned into reality, as she is now an entrepreneur under whom 15 women work.

Doing so, Ishana has transformed their lives too.

"At first, I was making these pads only for myself. Then it occurred to me that I can do this for my friends out there too", Ishana said.

According to her, the initiative was not only aimed at helping women but also the planet.

After realizing that synthetic sanitary napkins can wreak havoc to the soil, she decided to expand her production so as to reduce the pile-up of used synthetic sanitary pads which take a while to decompose.

Ishana claims that cotton pads which she supplies would take only 6 days to decompose.

Dubbing her present range of sale as a 'small scale', she is aspiring to team up with corporates which can invest in this line of trade through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

"We have been trying to get in touch with such CSR teams, and we hope to win their consent too", Ishana said.

"I liked this idea and chose to join the Ishana. I started working with her and now I'm making better money too", said one of her employees.

Noting that the presence of plastic in sanitary napkins as a serious threat to the environment, Ishana insist that we encourage the use of reusable cotton napkins.
