Clean chit to PM and Amit Shah, warning to former Telangana CM by EC

The Election Commission of India gave clean chits to PM Modi and Amit Shah. These clean chits to the PM are the fourth and the fifth by the Election Commission in four days.

New Delhi:Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday got two more clean chits by the Election Commission, this time for his remarks that Congress president "Rahul Gandhi has chosen a constituency where the majority is in minority" and "New India gave a befitting reply to Pakistan".

PM Modi had said at a rally in his constituency, Varanasi, on April 25 that "New India gave a befitting reply to Pakistan". The Congress had filed complaints with the Election Commission against both the remarks alleging the violation of the poll code.

These clean chits to the PM are the fourth and the fifth by the Election Commission in four days. Yesterday, the poll panel said PM Modi's comment that India too has nuclear weapons and does not care about Pakistan's threats does not violate the Model Code of Conduct.

Clean chits were given in case of remarks at Wardha, Latur, Barmer, Nanded and Varanasi.

The commission on Friday cleared speeches by BJP president at Nagpur in Maharashtra on April 9 and at Krishnanagar in West Bengal on April 22. The Congress had alleged that Shah's statements had violated the MCC as well as the advisories of the EC.

The commission also let off Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao by cautioning him and asking him to be more careful while making public statements in future.
