Hyderabad: As the class 10 examinations are all set to commence, it is all but normal for students to be overwhelmed with pangs of nervousness and anxiety.
Follow these tips to score better What are the mistakes I could commit? What precautions and tips can I follow to do well at the exams? These are some of the questions wavering around the minds of students.
ETV Bharat posed these questions to many prominent teachers and subject experts, to answer the above questions.
Tips to Follow:
Read the question paper carefully
Question papers are meant to ascertain the students’ power of observation, analysis and understanding. That is the reason students are given 15 minutes to study the question paper first. More than 75 per cent students start writing within 5 minutes of being given the question paper. Therefore, read the entire question paper carefully to completely understand it, and only then begin writing.
Write relevant answers
The answer you write should be relevant to the question. Many students tend to write answers completely unrelated to the question. Doing so shows your inability to understand the question, and will definitely not fetch you any marks.
Maintain neatness in your answer script
It is often seen that the first three pages of the answer sheet are impressive. The remaining pages are full of irregular scribbling. 18-20 lines must be written on each page. Not more. Not less. Segregate your answers into small paragraphs with sub-headings. This makes evaluation easier.
Avoid making too many corrections
Avoid making too many corrections in your answer paper. More than 60 per cent students strike off the answer they first write. After striking it off, they write another answer next to it. Such answers might miss the attention of the evaluator.
Highlight important portions
Important points and words should be underlined with a colour pencil. An underlined heading should also be given to every answer. Doing so highlights all the important portions of your answer.
Always cross-check before submitting paper
After the entire question paper has been answered, the answer sheet should be checked once again for any last time corrections. Some students forget to mention the question number to which they are giving the answer. Last minute checks will help to avoid such silly errors.
Subject-specific tips
- Mathematics: In the mathematics paper, the scale should invariably be mentioned in the graph. The units of the X and Y axis should be mentioned clearly. Equations relevant to the question should also be written. Finally, numbers should be written clearly.
- Physics: While solving physics-related problems, never forget to write units. For example, units like centimetre, metre, gram, kilogram should be mentioned.
- Biology: While answering questions related to experiments in biology, the related diagram should be drawn without fail.
- Social Studies: In the Social Studies paper, years and honorific appellations should be underlined. One should write years and dates only when one is sure of them.
